Found an old programme with him inside….like some giant Viking extra..remember him playing some games with a pot ( a proper pot) on his forearm which he used as a blatant weapon on his rampages forward….Oh the pure unbridled sophistication of it.

Ralph Wright's car was serviced at the Town Hall Garage on Raby Road in the 70's by my brother.

He used to spend quite a bit of time at our house (I lived on Rift house) and my Mam used to call him "Rarf" Wright and he hated it.

I had his autograph at one point until my brother used it to light a cigarette.

Good times.

Just checked the teams he's played for...

Born in Newcastle, Wright played professionally in England and the United States for Spennymoor United, Norwich City, Bradford Park Avenue, Hartlepool United, Stockport County, Bolton Wanderers, Southport, the New York Cosmos, the Miami Toros and the Dallas Tornado.

I knew Ralph well after he retired from football. He was Truck Sales Director for Northgate Vehicle Hire where I was also a Director but Ralph was a bit of a mentor to me. His stories about Pools and also New York Cosmos where he captained Bobby Moore and Pele were mesmerising. At the time he was playing still playing local non league football with him and Mick Tait a defensive pairing. God help any tricky little forward as they had a rule that they'd give them a good one early doors in the match. I last seen him one day when he was going in the players entrance at Pools around 2010 ish

RIP Ralph mate.
