Pete Wild for me at any cost. Time to pay the going rate for a decent manager. If you dont want to increase the club management budget simply off load Mr.Burns and some of those other unnecessary office roles you created and use that to boost the managers salary.

Pete Wild would represent an excellent appointment however Mike Williamson at Carlisle may be under threat before long the way the shaggers are currently heading. Being a Barrow boy, Wild would be a perfect fit for them. Carl Magnay has just departed Carlisle for Gateshead otherwise he may have been worth a shout as a level headed -although inexperienced - Poolie old boy.

100% agree.

the only way he,d come is if he is getting short of money and is using us as a stopgap moving somewhere the first chance he gets. being pools manager is still a big job and turning the club around would be ideal on any managers cv. like good players a good manager would move on like at most other clubs and bigger ones than us.

We've probably been paying over the going rate for the wide boy who's just departed. We could bring in Pep and it's still a gamble, there's more managers fail than succeed at a levels of the game look at the average tenure of managers as an occupation.

with challinor being the 12th in the list of long serving managers tells you all about the modern game where its all about success but not every club is capable of this. know sarll was a big disaster for us but still feel we were nothing but a play off contender before the ball was first kicked back in august.

One uncertainty that will shortly be resolved is the question of the current squad actually being good enough to make a realistic push for the playoffs now that the dead hand of Sarll has been lifted from their shoulders.

Yes agreed….i actually like an idea of 3 at back with Dodds as the CB providing pace and cover … there is def more in the squad than Sarll got out of it

It's a dream job given the players we already have in the building - just need somebody with half a clue as to how we get the best out of them!

Number of posters who keep saying ‘cheap option’ can anybody say how much Pools have been paying managers? i.e how much Kevin Phillips was on etc.

I wonder if someone like Pete Wild would take the job on the current salary but with a linked bonus for success. Say the current salary is £70,000 ( which these days is probably less than a managers job in a large company ) linked to say £30,000 for winning promotion. If a manager truly believes he is the one to bring success then he gets rewarded but if not it's £70,000. I personally would rather have that linked bonus that even £80,000 salary because I would only take the role if I was confident I could be a success. Its not a lot different to being promoted in a large company or leaving to join another large company. sctatchinghead

Anybody who claims to know is working from one of two sources - the rumour mill and the made up bullshit mill.

I’d settle for any bog standard manager, like other clubs do.
Just for a break from constant disappointment.

Don’t know if it’s true, but Wild was in the running before he went to Barrow, but wouldn’t move nearer the town, from his home in Oldham, which Raj wanted.

We wont get Wild - he distanced himself too many times and i believe he doesnt like Raj either from the last time he actually was in for the job.

We will end up with some U23 coach again - no one wants to touch us man we have a bad reputation now - just end up being the practise ground for young and upcoming managers a think. If it works it works and they get their name out there, if it doesnt so be it - they go back to being a 2nd or U21 coach and learn some and try again!

Sure he's had 2 interviews in the past and binned us of.
So no chance.

We don't need a manager, I would just trundle along with a caretaker till their luck expires, on average about 12 games, then try another, then another till we find someone who has an inkling of how to get best out of the players we currently have.

If he is going to go for an u23s coach/manager, might as well give the job to Tinks. Was a poolie through and through when playing for us. He knows the club and if he wants to be a gaffer in his own right, this could be a good job for him far better than being Boro's u23 manager.

And wasn’t popular when he left as a player. More chance of bring back Hartley from the frozen north….which is - 0.

Neil Warnock.
His swansong is to get Pools promoted.

Almost every single manager is a gamble even Pep. The only bloke who was never a gamble in my opinion was the late great Brian Clough

Yeah, bring back Colin Wanker!
His last half a dozen jobs, have all been his last job!

What about Tommy Widdrington- reckon he'd do a half decent job

How about Mark Tinkler who is U21 coach at the Boro. He has loads of contacts in the game and is a winner. Knows all about the game and understands the supporters. He would bring a brand of exciting attacking football.
Extremely popular player in the dressing at Pools and other clubs. sctatchinghead

An observation on Pete Wild. Barrow managed seventeen points out of a possible sixty-six between 1st Jan 2024 and the end of last season. To compound that they only got two points out of their last eighteen when three points would have guaranteed them a playoff place. Having watched a fair few of those games he looked to me as though he was floundering especially at Donnie where they threw away a 2-0 halftime advantage to lose 4-2.

Mark Fletcher now that's a blast from the past. I was very good friends with a Mark Fletcher 25 years back. He lived in Wolviston a proper good bloke.

I lived in Wolviston as for "the proper good bloke" - That's debatable.

I would love Pete Wild but I don't think he'll come as he turned us down once DC left as he was asked to move up here. Matt Gray would be a good choice and he is one of the early favourites.

Pete Wild won't drop down to the National League, his stock is a league or two up.

Theres a few decent managers about but whether they would come to Hartlepool given our track record and reputation is another matter.

I personally don't get this addiction for Wild; he has done nothing with any team, one manager of the month at best. He hasn't won anything.

I think if he came here, he would got the same way as the rest of our previous managers.

The only manager who wanted to be here was Phillips and I think, they did the dirty on him. We need someone who is comfortable in the North East and wants to manage us. Not just because it's another job.

I see Cattermole being mentioned.

I don't mind getting someone relatively inexperienced if they have a track record coaching----some journeyman clogger who 'knows the division' like Sarll was a disaster

Lets get someone who wants to play decent football, but is also realistic we aren't the 2nd coming of City, and who doesn't embarrass himself and the club with every interview !

Tommy Widdrington wouldn't be an awful shout .... Chris Beech would be a disaster !

Well before my time, but I would have thought that even he was a gamble, no management experience and full of his own self importance. Turns out he had the ability to back it up though.

The only appointment that we’ve ever made that I was 100% certain would be good was Danny Wilson. Everyone else has had something that has been a bit of a question mark. Some have come good, most haven’t. It’s just picking the best option available at the time and taking a gamble.

I very much doubt that we will get anyone as good as Kevin Phillips.
Not retaining KP has led to the total mess of the last six months!

Not retaining Phillips was probably the most sane decision in the last year. He was dreadful, as Fylde are about to find out.

I'd go for either Murty, Mark Tinkler, or Tommy Widdrington.

That said I'm on Half term Parole as of next Friday, so I'm going to chuck my chisels in the ring too- can't be any harder than dealing with those pesky kids! rolf

Get those pesky kids to make hundreds of wooden rattles and sell them for a £5 each. It's a win win because the noise level at the Vic will be the loudest in the country and you'll make a nice little earner  Afterall the wood is free / the work benches & tools are free / the labour is free / the heating is free / and best of all your getting paid your salary whilst enjoying surfing the bunker. It's better for them to make a rattle than a racket.

lets hope he will be as there will be a long thread about him if he did manage to succeed with them. when managers do get the sack we need to look at where the club actually was at the time of their departure and not months later when things turned out to be worse. no reply that phillips wasn,t sacked we all know that.

Stated that KP had one of the best win ratios in recent history.
So obviously not the shit manager some want to make him out to be.
Wudent be surprised if he gets Fylde on an upward surge.
Think we play them next month.

I very much doubt that we will get anyone as good as Kevin Phillips.
