Always fascinated by lyrics for some of the cobblers they write, the wife reminded me o& these this morning….

Manfred Mann’s ..Do wah daddy diddle.

There she was just a walking down the street,
Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do,
Snapping her fingers and a shuffling her feet shining
Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do.
She looked good
She looked fine
And I nearly lost much mind….etc etc

But surely he must have lost his mind because if I was walking down the street approaching a lass singing do wah diddy while snapping her fingers and shuffling her feet I ‘d give he a wide bleedin berth no matter how good she looks. bbolt

One of the craziest was Marc Bolan:
Have you ever seen a woman walking down New York city
with a frog in her hand,
I did don't you know I did don't you know.

He was asked about the bazaar lyrics in the song and said " It was a woman he passed on the streets of New York, walking down the street with a real live frog in her hand ". He then got on the tube and started laughing about what he just witnessed live on the streets of a major American city and decided he had to write a song based on that. Something so simple but crazy made Marc a fortune because it became a major hit around the World.

One of the creepiest with hindsight was foooking Glitter " Do you want to be in my gang my gang my gang " despite having a huge teenager following. banghead

Mungo Jerry..in the summertime

If her Daddy’s rich, take her out for a meal,
If her Daddy’s poor, just do as you feel..

Try that lyric today…although hearing it as a teenager when it came out I thought what an arrogant bounder.

People seemed to not look that deeply into song words back then but instead enjoyed the music etc. That allowed all the music low lives to do whatever they wanted. Today's World is a much darker place though full of backward laws / stupid do gooders / crazy woke tossers etc. I would hope these type of songs would never be allowed now but is that correct sctatchinghead When you look at the stuff taking place in Tayor Swift and Sam Smith & hundreds more concerts it's quite possibly a lot worse nowadays than back then and no longer out of sight but right infront of your eyes. banghead

What I liked back then was popularity was measured by actual records sold.

And despite us youngins ( at that time ) completely missing these evil words that they put literally right under our noises, it was a time or real quality music / singers and groups. What always makes me laugh is when the younguns think today's dross is music and pay mega amounts to go to concerts.

and we never listened to the lyrics looking for something smutty in them. who ever gave a second thought about rolf harris and his two little boys or his digeredoo at the time apart from him being a right boring aussie.
