Barbers shops / Nail bars / Vape shops etc from various nationalities are popping up in record numbers around the U.K. In one town 22 barber shops on the high street. Not a hope in hell of any of them making a profit yet over 650 barbers opened this year alone. We all know what this is all about though don't we. banghead

Did you struggle to get your hair cut in Hartlepool in the past when we had enough barbers. My mates wife has a well known top hair dressers in town opened in 1998 and they said many times over the years that it's a cut throat business and not easy to make a profit.

As long as the council are getting rates they will be happy. That's why the push for new housing and keeping retail premises that should be knocked down in the hope someone will occupy them.

Hundreds of years ago Barbers performed medical procedures and tooth extractions, maybe the government are hoping they'll start doing it again to take the pressure off the NHS.

Absolutely. Barely any difference between them. Both bought into the globalist agenda but haven't admitted it to the people of the UK.

Probably not but let's see.
I remember about 15 years ago talking to someone we both worked with. She wanted to open a Juice Bar/Shop on York Road. She had to jump threw hoops to get to the final decision...a No. Couple of months later...new Kebab shop* opens. confised
*Or something similar...can't remember the exact details.

Hang about, that’s the fecking point I’ve been making…but that’s a Council decision.
We’ve always had a Labour Council.
Not that long ago someone tried to open a chippy in Elwick Road…turned downbecause it was unhealthy food basically…yet kebab shops and pizza places open and shut like revolving doors…there’s that many barbers and nail bars in close proximity they can’t all be viable surely …. and if they’re waiting for custom of us they’d starve.

Charity shops definitely on the up the don’t pay business rates I understand but bookies are closing at a rate of knots as the old fag behind one ear pencil behind the other brigade die off.

Surely what should happen is that in an area the council says you can only have x% Fast Food, y% Nail/Hairdressers etc etc.Same with pubs too.
That would make the outlets more viable/health of population etc etc.
However that aint going to happen because the Council need the rates

easy, loads of sole traders priced out by the big supermarkets. the ones we all remember with affection from years ago that many forgot to save a few quid that ended up being spent on other things and not poverty itself. we all need to think twice when we walk past the few that are left as when they have gone they,ll be gone for life.

I think the big elephant in the room is the company named after the big south American river.
WACD is the test most businesses apply.
What Amazon Can’t Do.
Unless you’re a business that owns the building and are happy on slimmer and slimmer profits because you’re a long standing family business if Amazon can do it you’re up against it.

On reflection it’s just a catalogue company on steroids…..but a threat to the High Street..Be a soulless place if we all sat at home waiting for your next delivery of what you don’t really need arriving.

Covid did online companies and food delivery companies a huge favour, the public had no option to buy online but have continued to do so. It’s the same here in my holiday home food and goods delivery drivers all over, every one has become lazy.

i get the odd take aways but pick em up myself as i like food to be warm when i eat it. if the delivery driver has a few to deliver somebody has to be last and as i know myself that could be well over 30 minutes after leaving the shop.

Isn’t they’re a rule if your food is not delivered in a certain time you get it for free, judging how the delivery drivers race about on their motorcycles here it sounds about right.

Huge percentage of the population use Amazon now, the convenience the super fast delivery time. I said I would never order Just Eat etc but have even broke my cherry on that this year. Strange times we live in.

they said many times over the years that it's a cut throat business

Maybe that was the problem. The idea is to simply shave them not cut their throats. Very Sweeney Todd

That became legally unenforceable a good few years ago now as there were issues with forcing delivery drivers to take chances and exceed speed limits to meet the arrival times.

why not get them to do everything. supply drugs all day. open for haircuts till 5pm and then do take aways at night. your real one shop stop for everything then. could even give advice on the cheapest way mates of them can ebter the country illigally and what benefits they are entitled to. might even get a council grant for all that work for the community.
