Overheard a conversation in the pub last Thursday dinner time and these women were going on about dying and going to heaven…our lass kept digging me because I found their ramblings entertaining.
Now it revolved around meeting up with family again as though they were going to just carry on where they left off and spend eternity shopping, going on holiday and generally living the high life for eternity and beyond……is the world getting dumber?

Now if that was the case, what about the relatives you don’t like….crazy how people fall for these things.

Did they say how old they would be when they meet up again, Working, At School, In a hospice. The mind(sane) boggles.

Never been interested in religon, Since about the age of 7.
Then it dawned on me.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

I think that means "when" I meet my dad it's going to be strange that I'm older than him or is it only old soldiers that never age?

I wonder if it means you’re married and go shopping for eternity.

I think the Muslim faith has cracked the propaganda prize for the best brain washing scheme ever presented by any religious sect and that is if you strap a belt round your waist, blow yourself up and take as many innocent people with you as can, you are greeted at the portals of heaven by fifty virgins or some such other number as reward.
If anyone falls for that promise then he or she is definitely a true believer.
Mind you they gathered dozens of teenage virgins in Rotherham to have a practice.
A sort of Heaven on Earth.

By the same score they could all be in their nineties.

Not just Rotherham!

No it is anywhere they can get away with it.

No such thing as the afterlife.
Like I've said previously.
We were put on earth for a very short visit

So try to make the most of it.
Be polite to each other.
Help the needy.
Don't break the law.

Then it's heaven or hell.

afterlife is like infinity. something you just cannot get your head around. what i can never understand is there are people far more intelligent than any of us who actually believe in the afterlife from a young age and not oldies turning up on a sunday to top up their afterlife policy just in case. mind you others believe in re incarnation which is even a more odd idea.

Some people are going to be disappointed, but they’ll never know, so they won’t even get the opportunity to be bitterly disappointed.
I reckon religions there to keep us all in line or it would be chaos if the penny dropped.

you,d have thought the penny would have drooped by 1918 at the latest where both sides always said that god was on their side. if that was true there would never have been a winner but wars would have gone to a shoot out between an athiests and a christians from both sides to find a winner.

the ideal would be to live a life thats stated in the bible and other manuals that exist without some body in the sky nobody has ever seen heading it.

Years ago in the 70’s on a long quiet night shift we were talking about a simlar topic and one of the older lads came up with his theory that the concept of God was drawn up by the Top people of the day to keep order in the land.
If you were a mere serf your life would be relatively short brutal and not worth a lot, the concept of behaving yourself would result in you going to heaven to live in happiness for eternity would be a bit of an arm twister, hadn’t the Almighty ordained it?
We thought he had a point……because how many different Gods are there out there, all promising Nirvana for eternity if you behave.

just need to look at the number of african gods about where these tribes were once deemed to be backwards. no more so than the one the western world prayed to. shows how ideas have changed in the last 60 years when back in the early 60,s anybody with views like we have would have been thought of as an oddball or a bit excentric at best.

I must have been a oddball in the 60s then, And pleased about it.

join the club. know for a fact i was not popular with teachers at grammar school for my views on religeon and the monarchy where you were expected to be a church goer and a bower and scraper.

Religous nuts, The most dangerous people on the planet.

Live and let live. The people who I've found are the most preachy about religion are the atheists.

Possibly, But depends how religon treated as you grew.

and atheists do not promise you anything that they can prove or apart from religeon telling everyone how to think and run their lives.

I envy people who have religon, Good luck to them.
