if only eh...

although Super Ron does have the former connection with the lad - might be a little too in the distant past though for me.

id imagine a lad of his calibre has something lined up already

Who won't be as good as he was.

Remember Beardsley n Solano.
They were horrendous compared to their younger days.

He is only 29.

Although we now have an abundance of central midfielders, so i think it would be very unlikely.

I don’t agree that Beardsley was horrendous. He sometimes looked bad because he was playing passes into space and the other players weren’t thinking on the same level as him. His footballing brain was just too high level for his team mates.

Agree, although obviously far less talented Campbell looks horrendous for similar reasons.

Matter of opinion over Beardsley. I think that was an excuse for him playing poorly.

No almost impossible to miss judge a 5. 7 metre pass.

If Campbell is played out wide again this weekend or not in the No10 supporting Mani D and Grey then DS needs to just drop him altogether until we can find a right spot for him - nothing i have seen so far has worked for the lad and he doesnt look any better than a Cooke or Crawford from last season if im been honest. Yes work rate is good and he has legs which is keeping him in the side as id much rather play Mancini.

He is not in the same league as cooke or crawford yet. Maybe getting promoted with crawley got people carried away how good he is. But he needs to be given a chance in his proper position. Be like playing with 10 men with him if we keep playing him like we have been.

Beardsley was nowhere near the player we all thought he would be. Think its a bit of a cop out saying he was playing passes others didnt see. Jan ove pedersen was absoloute class and players at the time seem to grasp what pedersen was doing. I just think Beardsley was pretty much finished when he came here.

Campbell was an integral part at Gateshead for many years. He combined well with a whole host of forwards and attacking midfielders who went on to league success. It took Crawley to take a chance on him, probably height, they were well rewarded as he helped them to an unexpected promotion.

His problem here is tactical and explains why the attack is not firing, as Eiphos mentions earlier in the thread.

campbell for me moves the ball quickly when he has it but only an easy pass. seen nothing so far where a defensive splitting pass is in his locker. is it him or the style of play forced onto him where he is following orders. thought he,d be an important part of our midfield after his career before we got him.

as barmy as it sounds - Pools could do with another preseason with this lot so we can actually see what formation we need to be playing now we have a good squad of lads - id take another CB and LB all day long and even another defensive CM if we feeling real flush. But DS wants one more in and i believe its a CB (who can play across the back too) as well, so we should be good if that happens.

But honestly a behind closed doors game where we literally play every formation we can until it clicks. Then say try the best 2 we seen in that day. The big clubs sometimes do it before cup comps etc to try new players out or the youth into the side.

Just a shame we didnt have this team at day 1 of the pre season. Which gives me a warm feeling that if everyone stays around including DS and we build on this then next season i think we walk the league as winners "!

We have Hunter, Sheron, Featherstone, Sloggett, Robinson and Wallace who can all play DCM. Not sure that we need any additional cover there.

biggest gap in the squad must surely be at LB.
