The way money is splashed about in the silly premier league you have to wonder why Arsenal / Chelsea / Spurs or even Newcastle did not sign a proven goal scorer and England International. sctatchinghead Afterall the fee was low @ £40 million for a consistent goal scorer season after season. Must be something to do with the player but surely not his gambling habit now that he served his ban. Makes no sense at all to me in a money mad league that pays that in wages alone to certain players. If I was the manager of any of those clubs especially Arsenal or Spurs I would have scooped him up for such a ridiculous fee. He made it clear that he wanted to remain in the Premier league but with no takers he is off to Saudi with mega buck wages. It was possibly his plan in 2 or 3 years time anyway. Maybe Newcastle didn't want to re-sign a player they sold for around £300,000 sctatchinghead

Why are a lot of football clubs sponsored by gambling companies? Why do high profile personalities promote it?
Answer is......... there is a load of money in it. The odds are calculated so that you can never win in the medium or long term. Now with mobile phones its so easy to do.
Once gambling gets hold of someone it destroys lives like drugs.

Yes a flutter once a week on a horse or match is a bit of fun but thats it.

Maybe Pools could try and entice him with a £50 voucher for John Joyce?

we have come or gone back from the only gambling available was the pools or on course betting on the dogs and the nags. know the back street bookies existed but those who did use them regularly were frowned on by many. its so easy now to get into debt gambling on line if you have something in your account where the same person might think twice if they had to draw it out as cash seeing whats left instead of the transaction being declined for lack of funds.

At his age he has no sell on potential which is what clubs look for to recoup some of their cost at the end of the contract but he’s 28, so that ain’t gonna happen.
I’ve heard quotes from commentators saying he could pick up £50m over four years playing in Saudi…if he can stand the boredom.

seen it a few times where people have fed the bandits for ages and go to the cash machine that refuses to give them anything out. these people need as much medical help as an alcoholic does but get little publicity about their plight apart from a ban if they are footballers betting on their game.
