On the news this morning there was a feature about clamping down on misogyny, how that works I have no idea, but will there be an alternative for blokes?
Also featured was a Labour Council down south who are fining anyone for searing in the street the sum of £100.
Can someone tell Starmer Orwell’s ‘1984’ was a warning not a ‘user’ manual.

Snowy why do you blame Starmer, he doesn’t run the Labour Council down south, you have a distinct hatred of Starmer, I am not his biggest fan of him either.

He's pissed of the majority of pensioners who live in England.
And winter is on its way.
It was brutal last January.

Swearing in the street has been an offence since 1986 - section 5 of the public order act

Seems like the council are just clamping down on something that already exists - possibly to help generate some cash for the council.

He’s the leader of the pack…he brags about his tight control of his Party, do the very, very basic maths.

Enforced by the police……yes…but Sweary Mary wardens?
Unless your using it in an aggressive manner, swearing should be no one’s business.

At the moment the police will only prosecute if they deem the swearing to cause harm or distress and most magistrates won't be interested in someone who has been arrested just for swearing, even if directed at a police officer

I'm interested to see if these fines will stand up in court

‘Distinct hatred’….nah just don’t take him seriously…but it was you who described him in the Winter Fuel Allowance post as …’Starmer is a laughing assassin’.
I may take the piss out him but wouldn’t sink that low. :naughty:

In 1984, anyone who did not hold state sanctioned views or use state sanctioned language were branded thought criminals (and/or agents of Goldstein) and were outcast. To prevent 'incorrect' thoughts from even being formed in the first place, words were removed from the dictionary, creating newspeak whereby only state sanctioned thoughts could be expressed.

Makes me shudder.

Problem is swearing is just accepted these days. Watch tv films etc and you’ll invariable not be surprised to hearing swearing particularly Americans were everybody seems to be a mother fxxxxx. In my youth it wags called industrial language but was rarely heard from women. How times have changed.

Bit late in the day to ban swearing, it’s openly used on the TV and more so films, I don’t like people swearing when in a normal conversation like in a pub etc., there is no need for it but unfortunately it’s become part of normal conversation, the one word I really hate is the c word, horrible word and also women and young kids swearing.
Fella I know who in normal conversation swears, every other word an exploitative, the more you tell him the more he does it. I walked out his place the other day as he was giving his lady a right mouthful because she had turned the tv off and he struggles to reset the tv box.
Me, I only swear in jest never in anger, I can express myself with out swearing albeit some of the posters on here make me swear under my breath !

I agree Jamie, I find the language of some people quite cringeworthy especially as how they talk to their kids.
Swearing was meant as a last resort to shock, but to be fair, back in the day it was common in male workplaces .
When people want to control your speech or use of speech, you are on a slippy slope.

yes, a lot of younger women are worse than blokes nowadays and not just silly teenagers who cannot hold their drink.

control is what its all about. i as waiting to hear from a group that want swearing in the street to become controlled or make it a criminal offence. not many are overbothered as there are far worse things now to get youre y fronts in a twist about.

For me swear as much as you like outdoors but have a bit of respect when in shops, bars restaurants etc.

In other words, apply a bit of common sense and show some respect for others.
Remember when courting the wife we came out of the Odeon one night and a bus went by from Newcastle in advertising livery covered in tartan … Out of surprise I said…”Fucking Hell”….. she said ”I agree…….. but I kept it in my head”.

As with a lot of things it should be the intent that causes offence but there are people who go out of their way to find the offence for others.

2 guys chatting using swear words really shouldn't bother anyone as the conversation is not designed for anyone but the 2 of them.
2 blokes shouting swear words across the street can cause distress.

that about sums it up. a quick shout and a glare at a player giving you grief on the pitch goes a long way. it always worked for me without using cards telling a gobby player to shut the fuck up and get on with it. however the authorities frown on that prefering cards to be shown which just adds to your problem.
