A very very tricky game. Mark Cooper just signed 11 players and a new 3 year contract. He is a good manager and his teams know how to compete. If we achieve 3 points it would be a great start but 1 would be OK. We then have Southend another extremely hard fixture and again 3 points or 1. If we got 6 it would definitely put down a marker to the rest of the teams. I am going for a win at Yeovil 1-2 Campbell and ManiD in hard fought game.

I'm thinking that Sarll will not want to go to his old club and put in a poor performance. He'll be fired up for this one, I really fancy us taking three points.
2-0 to pools, Luke Waterfall and Mani D

As I think Yoevil and Southend will be both be at it this season, I would not be too disappointed with two draws. I would be happy with four points and ecstatic with six.

Yeovil have signed Matt Jarvis a striker and McGavin a CM from Torquay, a 30 year old keeper from Altrinchams bench (who now sits on their bench), the rest of the signings appear to be younger squad players.

Interestingly the chairman has released additional funds now Cooper has signed a 3 year deal, which he hopes to use later in the transfer window.

They did this to good effect last season signing Michael Smith in early Sept 23 a right back from Hearts. As Mark Cooper puts it, there will be plenty of players come the close of the EFL transfer window who aren't fixed up.

If Cooper uses those funds wisely they could finish in the top half. Otherwise expect a difficult, hard working side with a striker in Jarvis who is a handful and can score a goal or two (should be odds on for 10+ in NL). Nothing to fear from our perspective, but certainly no pushover, we will have to be on our game to take the 3 points.

Sadly I see a 2-0 loss (atleast). Hopefully I’m proved very wrong though!

If we can hit them with our high press game, remember we have Manni D and Parkes to come back into the team from Saturday and that should make a big difference, Pools to scrape a 2-1 victury.

It wasnt the favoured first game of the season by anyone i think - these players will be hungry to prove they have what it takes for this league again especially with new players from further below ! Can see them being a nice surprise package come the end of the season tbh.

think it will be a more than cagey affair and we finish it 1-1.

If we lose this the pressure will be on for first home game against what will likely be the best side we play this month….. lose both and there will be hell to pay !!

every team in the league will have a new squad. some will settle down quicker than others and we,ll have to wait at least 10 games to give an idea of how things will pan out. fans put far more emphasis on game number 1 than they do on any half way through the season where a win is no less points than the first to play for.

That reminds me of a work mate ( big mouth type) years back. A group of us went to Canary Islands all but one (him ) had been abroad before. We arrived at the hotel early morning had breakfast then started on the drink. We spent a few hours at the pool then went to the beach. We all put on the sun cream apart from him who said " your all pussies" anyway we continued drinking a playing footy while he slept drunk on his sunbed  At 5pm we got ready to go back to the hotel but he opened one eye and said " pussies " I will be up later. We got ready around 7pm to go out when suddenly we realised he had not yet returned. A few of us went down to the beach and he was fast asleep but without a umbrella and looked like a lobster  Unable to wake him we managed to get him a ambulance and he stayed in hospital for the full 7 nights and was lucky to be alive. We did think about visiting him but hey we had a holiday to enjoy and real pussies to chase. He never lived it down and his new nickname was ..yes you guessed it pussies

We very rarely win the first game- so for that reason I would take a draw.
1-1 Campbell to open his account

Followed up by a home win against SARFend, which is a MUST for me with my wife and outlaws all being shrimpers, it would be unbearable losing to them

Averaging 2 points a game will stand us in good stead for the season rolf

Not sure why people bigging up yeovil , there is a huge gap between NL and NLN/S and cooper is a journeyman manager who hasn’t achieved much
We absolutely should be winning this one, obviously anything can happen in a one off game result wise but if we aren’t clearly superior to this lot eyebrows will be raised

Mail reporter saying we only have 17 fully fit players from a 22man squad. Some numbers from kids gone out on loan.

After deliberation the 5th goal in the game will be scored by Pools in injury time for a 3 2 win.

apart from the obvious result being important i,ll be interesed in how the side actually plays. Will it be all that different from last season or this high press all action stuff be a reality in a league game or just a load of bollocks we have been fed.

Thats the thing it can soon go out the window when you actually come to the real stuff. Lets hope a few of these signings who have been hyped up already to being way better than last years players actually do it in meaningful games.

Not long to go now

Their was a huge gap last year and we lost 5-2 at oxford and drew with kidderminster early. I think a few people might get a shock if they think we are going to roll into yeovil and dismantle them. We played a national league north side in scarborough in a friendly and they looked a class apart from us and vice versa against South Shields. Depends on the day against most sides.

they have just got a name and most fans would have seen us play them. if it was a side nobody had heard of who got one four figure crowd a season everyone would be more confident.

Will Pools travel to Yeovil on the day of the match or stay over on Friday night?

Am not over confident--just saying we shouldnt be kidding ourselves IF we want to do well this year these are the sort of games we should be winning....and Lennie Lawrence hadnt seen a game like Oxford City in all his long days apparently

So many injuries so early on and what's happening with Mancini? Hate these first games of the season especially away. Awful feeling 0-3 or 0-4 to Yeovil. Please prove me wrong Pools.

Think we will lose this tough tough start 2-1 to them.

If you think Yeovil will be tough then god help us.

I don't think the 500 Southend fans will go home pointless either.

Then anutha toughy at Tamworth.

But LF thinks its an easy August

Tamworth are still part time ffs if you that’s ‘another toughy’ we may as well pack up now

Loyal is hoping Kev  Imagine if we go a goal down on Saturday  He will be posting dozens of the most hillerious comments and that's just during the game.

I sadly won’t be able to see the game due to commitments……but I will still
Be commenting on it

So many injuries so early on and what's happening with Mancini? Hate these first games of the season especially away. Awful feeling 0-3 or 0-4 to Yeovil. Please prove me wrong Pools.

if that result is correct or we hammer them the same its not to say the season will continue the same way. too much is put on the first game of the season always and at every club who plays football. its no more important than aby other game we,ll play.
