Its been a while since I posted on here but I have been watching the banter.

Many on here bemoan the high electricity prices and don't see the point of smart meters. Today I am being paid for every kWh of electricity I use up to 16:00 under the Octopus Agile tariff. Electricity is priced by the half hour with half hourly readings sent from your smart meter. Its about the fourth day this summer that prices have been negative. Its all to do with there being more generation from renewables and nuclear than there is demand from customers. The Active tariff works well if you can avoid the highest cost periods between 16:00 and 19:00 which can be higher than the standard tariff, so don't use washing machines, tumble driers and dishwashers over that period if you can avoid it. Next day prices are published at around 16:00 each day. Most days prices are lower on average than the standard tariff but could be higher. I've been on the tariff for a few months and so far I'm saving about 25% over my previous average rate.

Its worth a look. You have to transfer to Octopus on the standard tariff and then switch to the Active tariff once your up an working ok and the smart meter readings are being read correctly. If you don't have a smart meter and are pissed off with your current supplier you can still switch to Octopus on the standard tariff but not the Agile tariff.

If you follow the link below to switch you will get £50 credit on your account when its up and running. I will get the same which I will donate to charity.

If electricity was free by using a smart meter I would still refuse to have one. Check out the health problems and radiation connected to smart meters it's extremely frightening.

It's just a wireless transmitter so no different to mobile phones.

If you believe 5G caused Covid then your Smart meter will do the same. For everyone who only uses tin foil for cooking food then they are safe.

Smart meters have been dismantled and there is a 0v contactor that can remotely turn you off when up and running if you fall behind on payments they have the power to cut you off dangerous and yes they would use this function,
PS electric should be free it was paid for by our forefathers it never belonged to a government to sell to foreign companies this is called double dipping and is illegal.

Octopus have bought out Shell Energy if you are with Shell you will soon be getting billed by Octopus, at least Octopus is currently British owned.

I echo Slod's comments - have been with Octopus since August (since October on their Agile tariff) & our electricity bills are significantly lower than last year even after taking into account our reduced usage due to milder weather. The average Octopus Agile cost since 21 October is 16.45p per kilowatt hour
This afternoon they are paying us for every unit used between 12.30 and 16.00

So they're encouraging people to use more not less energy, be more economical friendly if they just reduced generation wouldn't it?

I understand the point you are trying to make, but it's not encouragement, it's simply their pricing policy. Their highest average rates are between 16.30 & 18.30, but that hasn't "encouraged" too many people to alter their pattern of usage. It's that peak time usage which the suppliers have to cater for when they decide how much electricity they purchase

I should originally have added that our average cost per kWh since 21 October is 12.07p, compared to the average Octopus cost of 16.45p

Worked with a scouser pipe fitter years ago, he got hold of a device some sort of valve which would cut a hole in the main plastic gas line then you could pipe it into your house, said it was very common occurrence in Liverpool. He dug the hole tried to put the valve in cross threaded it gas leaking out, filled the hole in called the gas board reporting a leak. Obviously the gas board knew what happened but couldn’t prove anything.
