He is only on trial what is there to lose. That’s the problem slating a player without seeing him. Somebody has obviously said have a look at him.

Agreed, as my old mum used to say ‘there’s no harm in looking - as long as you don’t touch’. In this instance until due diligence in respect of general health, fitness, attitude, determination etc etc have been properly undertaken - which I have no doubt will occur before a playing contract is drafted and presented.

I get all this lets give him a chance lark. He is only coming on trial, question is though why are we even looking at players that have been out on loan to 3 or 4 different clubs that arent even anywhere near our standard, is that not telling someone at the club something already, do we expect miracles that this lad is going to improve all of a sudden? I dont know about anyone else but im already getting serious concerns about next season. Gateshead have a bundle of players ready made how come we arent even cherry picking them? Can we not afford them either?

however he could be a decent back up player. its not all about having a top first 11 and nothing to back them up. last season showed how bad a decision that was.

Maybe the thinking is do we want to spend money on transfer fees or can we find good players who cost nothing in fees but we can pay a bit better salary?

If a lad thats had to go out on loan to hungerford and stafford etc is now going to be deemed as decent back up we are in a spot of bother. I thought when we got relegated the ethos would be to try and win this league, jt seems like were a million miles from even trying to do that. We are going tk struggle big time if we dont start signing top players for this division, not average joes.

We're probably going to have at least a dozen trialists as in previous years and similar to other clubs. Well maybe sign 1 out of every dozen at the most so having a look at them and assessing their character and ability is probably a wise move. A great example of trials working well for us was Jack Baldwin who we brought on trial from Faversham and he's had a decent career since signing for us.

Yeah nowt wrong with giving trials in fact im shocked clubs like pools dont give mass trials to see if they can find talent.

I think there used to be quite a few pro clubs who ran open trials days for anyone who fancied themselves as the next Ronaldo. Not a bad idea really, bring the manatees to you rather than going to dozens of lower league matches.

there used to be an organisation that ran trials for players if they signed up for them do not know if it still exists but my lad went to one, had talks with kettering town due to it but they lost interest when they found out he was not previously at an acadamy or a youth system. suppose by missing out on those paths he became a bad player.

I remember John Beck manager of Cambridge would have a load of trialists at pre season and whittle them down daily on performance and attitude and maybe sign one or two, Abetter way of doing it rather than regretting signing a player and having to live with it.

Would not mind getting that keeper Chesterfield had on loan last season from Everton.

Remember reading on the Woking site that Sarll is not one for being in front of the camera or one to supply the supporters with updated information about what's going on etc. It was something the Woking supporters could never understand and found very frustrating about him.

Down here in Woking, the pre-match sponsors lunch usually included the Manager coming in for an update chat. It soon became clear that Sarll was not one for attending and sent along an underling or injured player. He does indeed play his cards close to his chest and never really engages with the media. One significant point is that after the match he'll definitely spend ages applauding the crowd - even when the team he's put out and the tactics he's employed resulted in an absolute drubbing! Brave lad.

Gateshead aren't going to curl up and die just because of their ground situation. They have a good reputation for developing players - especially Newcastle cast-offs - and will carry on doing it.

Think players who are out of contract or let go by their academy are mainly looking for a wage and a chance to prove themselves.

there will be nearly half of the teams in the league who will be worrying more about being relegated than promotion from the outset. by saying that they will never sign anybody especially if players do not want to be involved in a relegation battle.

i,d be more flustrated if he was good infront of a camera and constantly updating fans and being totally shite doing the job he was appointed to do, manager the players well and get us into the play offs at least. he could tell me to fuck off if he gets the side promoted.
