Aye, just been announced on club Twitter feed.

That IS a shock.

Good luck Sweens in your next venture and thanks for all your hard work and dedication to the cause.

Wonder who DS has lined up?

Someone with a winning mentality hopefully, I think Sweeneys been a bit fortunate to be with us for so long given the number of managers we've gone through. Maybe got a bit too comfortable and should've given the managers job a go imo.

I agree, he needs to move on and prove if he can be a success elsewhere instead of being stuck in a rut at Pools playing second fiddle every time a new manager comes in.

No matter your thoughts on him leaving does he not deserve a bit better than a biography and a quote from him on the website. Lack of quote from Singh/Monks/Lawrence shows a lack of class for me especially for someone like Sweens who's been part of the furniture at the club for decades

it might show a lack of class but for me one of the problems with him is being around the club for decades and needs a fresh challenge if he does want to stay in the game at even this level.

Sorry, but it isn’t really.
We sometimes confuse our loyalties with our cold, stark realities.
Time to turn the page.

It was a ‘rut’ of his choosing.

To be honest I believe Raj has done Sweeney well. He has kept him on with four managers when the norm is for managers to bring in their own back room staff.

Sweeney being shown the door isn't a shock - why it's taken 13 days since Sarll joined the club to confirm the inevitable is a bit of a surprise though.

Sweens has never been one to rock the boat and his parting statement is as diplomatic as ever. Doubt he'll be doing a turn on Swich of Play anytime soon - more's the pity!

Good servant to the club - did his duties well in the darkest of hours. Helped when it was needed but as we all know we need a shift in something and it has to start with a complete new back team if a new manager comes through the door aswell. Im happy to see how this pans out tbh. Feaths may have his own way of doing things within the team as part of this coaching/playing role so will be good to see how a hands on player inside the team works out too. If anything Sarrl obviously wants to work with people he really knows and trusts and its good sign from a new manager to get things how he wants. Sweens will end up at a Gateshead or Spenny. No doubt about it.

This. The lack of class at Pools is depressing.

 It doesn't get any classier than that (not at Pools at any rate).

Probably he and the club needed a change.
Cant see him moving out of the region so hopefully he will be an asset to one of our smaller clubs.

I was shocked that it took this long after KPs departure, that I assumed he was being kept on in some capacity. Maybe they were waiting on Featherstone to agree coaching role first

Does this mean that Featherstone will be next Caretaker Manager?

How is it lack of class? Anew manager comes in and he wants his back room staff. It’s virtually the norm in football.

Correct..class has bugger all to do with anything, it’s all about success on the field…etiquette is neither here nor there.
That said…all managers who came after Hartley all had Sweeney at their side, they start brightly then fade and then things get patchy and it’s hard to work out who was the manager and who thought they were manager.

Good luck to him, bis best season was probably the playoff one--though his season under Wadsworth in League 1 runs it close.

Crazy we are talking nearly 20 years ago now we were in the league 1 playoff final.....genuinely thought we'd have another crack at it the next year after we lost!
