Mansfield Town boss Billy Dearden has rubbished reports of an approach from Hartlepool United for defender Alex John-Baptiste.

The Stags boss is hoping Baptiste, who he sees as one of his brightest stars, will sign a new contract to keep him at Field Mill for the foreseeable future.

Dearden told the Nottingham Evening Post: "[Pools boss] Danny Wilson has not spoken to me about Alex, although I do know he likes him as a player.

"If there has been a bid for him it will have gone through the chairman or chief executive, not through me.

"I haven't spoken to Alex for a while, but I expect I will to see what he intends to do. I still want to keep him here.

"But you can't keep waiting for players forever."

Go back six months and substitute 'Richie' for 'Alex' and you could just imagine what's going on!! :laugh: :laugh:

The article may be from a couple of days ago but teh quotes are indeed from weeks ago.
