I was reading in the Sunday Sun today that David Beckham is rumoured to be in line for a knighthood  confised when Tony Blair announces his departure honours list.

And what exactly has he done to deserve it if he gets it?

It's not his fault now is it.......

To be honest, is it any different from the Beatles getting a gong back in the sixties?

Yes massively. Music is the UK's second largest export and consequently raises millions, possibly billions in revenue. The Beatles are maybe the biggest sellers ever. Well it worked until Yoko sold Northern Songs to Jacko anyway.

I can't think how football brings much through the Treasury doors by comparison, much less David Beckham.

It just goes to show you how little they mean if they are giving people like David Beckham knighthoods, he's been a good footballer for a few years but apart from that he doesn't deserve it. I have nothing against the guy but it would be pathetic if he got one.

However, if they were to give one to Micky Nelson then I could fully understand and I bet his lass doesn't look like she's going to die in the next 24 hours!

When the Beatles got there awards, the band were in its infancy as far as sales go, it was a nod and a wink to popular culture by the Labour party, sound familiar?

Well they were six albums, twenty singles and two blockbusting smash hit films into their career by then and yeah, there was plenty still to come but they were already big earners. By 1965 EVERYTHING was popular culture and London was the centre of it.

A very populist move it certainly was but merit for merit it was still a lot more deserved than Goldenbollocks's knighthood.
