Profits have gone up over 100% in 1 year to just under £800 million, Centrica who own BG have hiked their dividends by 33%. lucky you if you are a shareholder.
Am I right in saying the government were subsidising gas bills for the public in my eyes contributing to BG profits.
How can companies be allowed to make such a huge profit on an everyday and essential ‘product’ ?

things like this just boils my piss. there are things better in private ownership but not things like this where its all about some faceless shareholders who can afford the shares in the first place.

I'm my opinion.
All companies have been ripping us off since COVID. All these companies have lost a lot of money over the years between 20-22. No one was using Electricity, Water, Gas in these Coffee shops, Newsagents, Offices and shopping centres, etc etc. So it's the true reason why cost of living crisis happened, these rich M.Ps clearly have shares in these businesses and have to make their money back too, by using us (public) as Cash Cows...

its not just big busineeses thats been ripping us off since covid its everyone one of them. trying to claw back what they never earned during that period. you would think it was the general public who refused to use their places of business. we were not allowed to with the restrictions we were all under but we are suffering in every way now.

Yes we are being ripped off everywhere you go since Covid.

I like, more so in winter, a cup of soup. There were 5 packets in a box but now that has been reduced to 3 - a 67% increase!

There are so many examples of this, or weight reduction on a product but still charging the same or even higher prices.

Let's have a bit more Kingswood & Wellingborough please.

Terrible firm, ran solely on profit grabbing, I was with them years ago would never return, my parents have boiler cover with them, you have to ring up and organise a annual service yourself, they can't even be bothered to send you a reminder, in the hope they gain another 6 months and you basically pay for a service you never got.

I’d like to re-nationalise the Energy and water industries, the railways and buses.

Agree as it is it does not work for 99% of the population on any level and it should not be a political argument.

On the News earlier that despite the unit prices coming down a few pence.
The Standard Charges are going up big style yet again with the North East up to 71p a day for Electricity.
And that customers who pay on time have to subsidide customers who don't pay on time.

This shit announced a few days after British Gas made a profit of £751 Million for last year.
Cant see the budget day Help keeping up with these fake inflation figures.
Currently 4% Well Aye. :angry-tappingfoot:

Wholesale gas prices are the lowest since 2021 so why does the cost keep going up, losing out on the usage charges but putting the standing charge up to compensate for the decrease in the wholesale price, gotta keep the shareholders happy.

Shareholders must be the Westminster Tory Lot. Didn't they make enough cash from that rigged Lizz Trust Cameo performance of a prime minister.

Centrica owns BG which in turn is owned by asset management companies who manage investment funds and pension schemes, there is no large single individual investor. What is annoying is the number of managers and executives employed by Centrica, that’s where loads of the income goes.

My overall energy bill is going down by £391 per annum from April. Looks like at last the reductions are beginning to filter through. I'll give it a few more months then I shall be searching the market for the best fixed deal I can find. Although fixed deals are emerging now, I am still reluctant to commit just yet.

The wholesale gas price is now lower than pre Ukrainian Russian conflict, why hasn’t the gas price not dropped accordingly, because you have got to keep the share holders happy.

How come they let you change suppliers for gas and electricity but not water?…which shows the entire pointlessness of privatising them into smaller companies, that just creates a cop out.
If they’d privatised it into one countrywide water company we’d have one target to blame and pressurise..,but the nationalisation option has to be the preferred one.
Trouble is I can’t see any party de-nationalising them or they’d get my vote if they did.

they won,t, but how great were the old days when you just paid for the gas and electric you used the same as your neighbours without this constant need to look for a better offer. yes, competition is here to help us all and reduce our bills. well it would be if you were rich enough to buy and sell shares.

The only competition among the gas and electricity suppliers is to see who can make the biggest profits.

There is a 35% windfall tax on their profits which was extended to 2029 in yesterday's budget.
