He was a great footballer along with loads back then real proper skillful players & entertainers. Those players like Stan Frank Worthington Geogie Best Rodney Marsh to name just a few give full value to the supporters. These players entertained with a smile of there faces and never dived and cheated or rolled about as if been hit by a missile. I never missed a single minute of match of the day every Saturday night and now never ever watch the cheating moaning rolling about primadonas. RIP Stan will never be forgotten just admired and respected. clappp clappp clappp

Certainly played at Pools. Got Malcolm Dawes sent off. Both fell to ground in our penalty area and the ball was cleared to the other end. Mally went to help Bowles up but Bowles hit him at which Mally hit him back. Sadly the ref turned round and just saw Mally hit Bowles and sent him off.

Just to add to the above. Although the ball had been cleared and was at the other end of the ground the ref gave a penalty from which Crewe scored to add injury to insult.

I remember in later life being involved at Epping (Essex) when they were at a decent level but now so far down the pyramid at the bottom of the barrel.

RIP Stan

Yep I was there too. Bowles had a fist fight with Mally Dawes, Dawes got sent off and Crewe got a penalty even though the ball was at the other end of the pitch when the alleged offense took place. Crewe won the game 2-0. Bowles may have scored one of the goals. Long time ago and I tend not to think too much about opposition goal scorers. At the time Bowles was not well known.

on top of that these players were actually a lot closer to us than todays lot are. most either like a good drink, the company of fast women and slow dogs or horses. even someone like me had a drink with a future england international, 2 ex well known ones an had frank worthington in the house. will never happen again and has you say match of the day was a must watch and if a player got sent off or even cautioned it usually was thoroughly deserved. there cannot be many of those real entertainers left now to remember and unless there is a change in the game we,ll never see their likes again.

Stan was great. When I was at school we used to travel up to London to watch him play for QPR. He had that proper 70s look too. Long hair, a bit surly, a bit rebellious.

It was said once of Stan that he had spent his money on betting, booze and women, to which he replied "Well at least I didn't waste it".

:-D

Stan Bowles. Great entertainer aka football and gambler. RIP Stan happy memories and brings back memories of those blue and white hoops of QPR who seem these days to be cemented in the bottom half of the Championship.
