Why do these people go on and on and on about not eating meat, yet make substitutes to look like the food they despise…. sctatchinghead
Is it because if served in the form it comes it would look like a dockyard omelette and have all the appeal of wallpaper paste.
Yet the now being touted to the masses are to be based on processed insects…yummy, but are they not creatures or is size a decider….

Every time I have had a thought of being a veggie, I just think of a bacon sarnie and I come back down to Earth.

Cockroaches and the likes are fine by me. Good source of protein stir fried with soy sauce and noodles.
We are hardly going to run out of them!

My daughter is Vegan. She has been for the last 10 years or so. I watched a documentary on animal agriculture with her and I had to agree with her to the fact that it is horrific. I like my chicken too much though.
I have to respect her for making that choice though. She has more willpower than me.

If that’s what people want to do that’s their choice.
What I object to is advocates for them expecting others to conform to their view.
I have no desire to tell people what to eat, but in turn I expect no moralising in return…odd as I don’t eat that much meat but do enjoy my fish.
If it ever came to pass I suppose there’d be no sheep, chickens, cattle, goats etc as they’d hardly qualify as pets.

I made this exact same argument to a vegan once and her reply was she'd rather them all go extinct than us eat them.

What? Livestock or vegans….?

Taken to its ludicrous conclusion, they’d want all carnivores to go extinct too so they can’t be seen eating each other in the wild.
There’s a silly advert going the rounds about plant based milk….. it shows a basic diagram of all milk having to pass through a cow before you consume it, whereas their pretend milk is straight from the factory, none of those pesky cows involved, but if it doesn’t come through a cow it’s not really milk……once again mimicking something they.

I don't think vegans are denying that animal based food tastes good, they just want to get as close to getting that experience of eating it but with entirely plant based stuff instead.
Its just the language that bugs me. A sausage has meat in it. Dead beast. If it doesn't, it is not a sausage.
Also folks that try to convince you (and probably themselves) that this meat substitute food tastes good or in some even more looney cases, tastes better than the real thing. No. Nope. Its at best edible but mostly weird and sometimes vile. It isn't as good as the real thing.
Lab grown might be interesting though.

Try asking for the meat option in a vegan restaurant . Chickens are made out of chicken for a reason .yum.

Vegan restaurants are closing in their droves as people's appetite for them is waning, big article about it in this morning's Guardian.

I have been a vegetarian for 13 years. But I recently changed to a pescatarian. I cannot and do not try to convert anyone because its individual choice. But I have to admit I really do struggle to have any good meals now. As for the food being like the real thing it's definitely not and most tastes like dry cardboard and is very expensive. However I will not change back on principle no matter what happens.I suppose you could say I am paying a very high price for my personal love of animals but I am NOT saying meat eaters don't love animals because that would be totally wrong. Her indoors reckons I have lost the plot maybe she is right

I like fish but I am partial to mince and onions and a decent sausage, plain pork, Lincolnshire or Cumbderland and not forgetting a decent steak or mince pie, plus a nice roast joint of beef or lamb and chicken with stuffing is my favourite to be honest but a good ham, beef or chicken sandwich always rings the bell with a decent dressing and I love a crispy streaky bacon sarny with a cup of tea but always enjoy a couple of slices of black pudding….but that apart I can take it or leave it. bbolt

I'm vegan, exception of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday, where I eat real food.

I've just finished a Mushroom Stew with Dumplings for tea, it was lovely. But I did have two burgers before the match today!

I've not eaten meat for almost 40 years. I eat those animals I could kill myself. If I wouldn't have the stomach to kill it myself I don't eat it. As a result I eat fish only. I NEVER eat Scottish salmon, jesus wept it's so bad and I'm not telling you that for a veggie or vegan reason, just do your own research and see if you want it afterwards. Holy shit.

One thing I've never understood is the bacon thing though as in why so many people love it. I get why you'd love the smell but all that stretchy, chewy fat? What the fuck? Barf.

I think the reason companies make veggie/vegan things look like meat is that they're trying to appeal to the meat eaters. I, as a non-meat eater couldn't give a fuck what shape it is as long as it doesn't have meat in it. It is handy though if I fancy some quick frozen shit and it's burger or sausage shaped as I can easily make a sandwich out of it.

I also think that the processed veggie stuff (Quorn etc) is probably, nearly, almost as bad for you as the meat equivalent. The list of ingredients for Quorn stuff almost doesn't fit on the packet. The fewer the ingredients the better it is.

All of that said, my mam is 84 and very fit for her age. She's always said 'everything in moderation' and she's always eaten meat too so I suppose if you want to live a long life then that's not a bad way of thinking.

I doubt many vegans will be able to stomach sitting down to a cockroach burger - and I’m with them all the way on that!

Surely fillet of Cockroach in a Grasshopper mayonnaise…..if that’s the future then I’m off to book those parachute free skydiving lessons.

In my second home insects are very popular full of protein they say, I have tried them all but they only taste of the oil they are cooked in, the grasshopper legs tend to get stuck in your teeth though

Anyone see the clip on You Tube of some vegetarian virgin in her 30’s demonstrating her vegetarian dog’s preference for a veggie diet.
She has a bowl out full of rabbit scran, a green featureless desert of salad and bowl of dog meat…she calls her dog in clumsily directing his head to the salad….the dog sniffs the meat and lunges for what his instincts developed over thousands of years tell him is better, she tries to wrestle him back to the salad but the dog’s animal instincts kick in and warns her off and gobbles the meat down……he’s a carnivore you silly cow.

I like sprouts too, underrated …. and even turnip and parsnips, but kale, that shredded tarpaulin by-iproduct is the Devil’s spawn

Can you imagine turning up at lets say a Blackpool guest house and asking the owners what the vegan and gluten free options are for breakfast.

The guests would be asked to look into the Septic Tank and I'll fish out and cook what
they fancy in the Vegan line?
