If its already been posted I apologise. York chairman has put official complaint into police for the poor treatment of City fans at the Hartlepool game. Not said anything about Pools just the coppers heavy handed tactics towards York fans.

Cue my pompous voice……How dare you Sir, I would have you be made aware that I have English, Danish, Scots and Irish blood according to my DNA results but as all my great great grandparents lived on the Headland they must have rolled up and thought ‘aye, aye, we like it here’ and stayed.
As for the Danish bit, ‘Lurpak’ in Ye Olde English translates as ‘Billy Horner's Blue and White Army.’…..that’s just how ancient it is.

he might have a point though like most clubs that have a large away following feel now. cannot say i really feel welcome at any ground in the occasional away games i go to. a case of behave as we want, give us your money, spend as much as you can inside the ground and now fuck off home and leave us in peace.

Every football fan who goes to away games must have experienced heavy handed policing many times. Should start going to games wearing a Just Stop Oil jacket and you'll probably get a lift there and back and sandwiches and a cuppa off the old bill.
All football fans are generally regarded as scum by every police force in the country aren't they?

there must be a number of coppers that attend games in their spare time or support a club. wonder if these are on other duties on a match day. mind you many home fans have no time for away fans but are really only away fans because of geography at our level and have the same interests and problems as we have.

Policeman are never off duty, I used to drink in the Schooner, I was in a conversation with a fella who was a friend of my mate, we were stood at the bar., he was listening to every word we were all saying. Suspicions confirmed when he took out his wallet and his warrant card was clear to see.

in theory they are never off duty, but for every one like that there will be another not on duty when they are supposed to be. its been known as a job for skivers who want an easy time and turning corners or looking away when its suits them.

The biggest skivers are the fire brigade banghead Yes they do have to attend horrible situations but generally have a job to nothing. They play games / sleep on duty / Park in town centres to watch the talent. banghead

Try attending a road accident having to remove dead bodies/body parts from cars including kids or retrieving bodies adults and kids from a house after fire.
They deserve every penny they get irrespective of how much down time they have after witnessing some horrific scenes.

It’s not just the initial sight of things which is bad enough, it’s what stays in your mind and visits you occasionally.

Try "walking a mile in their shoes" and then ask yourself could you do the job. Not for me, crawling into smoke-filled buildings in breathing apparatus with zero visibility searching for casualties with searing heat and huge potential for self harm.

I know I shouldn’t, but this reminds me of training in the early seventies and we had to do fire training, that after three days culminated in the practical exercise.
We formed a group of eight each in full gear, full face mask and bottle on and made to form a caterpillar to go through the course in a smoke filled building holding the belt of the person in front….went in and the smoke was a weird off white and we were doing ok till the pace speeded up considerably till eventually we all crashed out…falling in a pile outside….turns out the lad behind the instructor thought it would be a laugh to turn of his air supply……he was taken aside for a chat …and never seen again.

I have a relative who worked in the London Fire Service and attended at Grenfell. He has never spoken about it, but it is pretty clear it has had a lasting effect.

How has the York City thread become a visitation of the emergency services?

We do start threads with good intentions and many seem to drift into something completely different.

Isn't that the fun of this forum.

Happy Easter everyone

I think, the bunker gives off a damp gas of deviating thought.
So for instance, a post regarding the floodlights can become by the third reply, a post questioning the financial viability of an open top bus service around Stranton Cemetery every hour….it’s just bizarre, I love it.

Well why do we have veterans living on the streets of this country sctatchinghead They witness far more atrocities than the fire brigade during wars.

I am not against the FB and yes these people do indeed have an horrific dangerous job at times but so do doctors and nurses only difference is they work full shifts and still need to beg for pay rises. Then we have the coast guards who have a horrible job at times and do it voluntary.

Firefighters are on station for their full shift and not just sat on their arses too though. They do training, maintain their kit, do public awareness events, building and venue safety inspections, home fire prevention campaigns, etc
We could of course go back to them all being part time and paid only when attending incidents, of course then there'd be complaints about response times, competency, etc

My mate was in the Navy on a nuclear submarine. When he left he became a fireman and tells me its the best job ever. Yes they do have to be on duty the full shift and do have training etc but on night shift he sleeps most nights.

Any job is only cushy if it suits the individual though, personally if it was 39 hours a week sleeping on shift and 1 hour of cleaning up after a fatal road accident, or someone dying horribly in front of my eyes, or crawling blind into confined spaces it wouldn't be for me.

Totally agree PTID I could never do any job that involves injuries or worse deaths no matter what the money or hours. But its horses for causes and luckily we have people who do these jobs. I know a bloke who worked at a slaughter house in Stockton and nothing bothered him in the slightest. He would eat his sandwiches with out cleaning the blood off his hands

One of my neighbours is a copper who supports Sunderland. He told me a few years back that he goes to games against Newacastle with his off duty mates and gives it large. Him and his mates got involved in the train station punch up years ago against the mags.He simply flashes his card to the Nothumbrian police if caught and he knows the Durham lot he works for them.

Get caught on camera they lose their job, rightly so too

The sort of rotten scum that gives the police a bad name....and the fact that he brags about stuff like that to a neighbour suggests to me he's not the sharpest knife in the kitchen...I do hope he gets his just deserts one day.
