Ridiculous situation where millions of people can't see an NHS dentist. Caused by years of cost cutting and short termism of successive governments.
Back in the day kids were basically pre-screened by a dentistry team (the gum butchers) who advised if the kids needed to attend a dentist. Surely if this was reintroduced it would free up a huge number of appointments made by parents for their kids for precautionary routine check ups?

Similarly why can't nurses go to schools and give the routine childhood vaccines en masse (with parental approval of course) which would free up huge amounts of GP and nurse appointments, they did it back in the day amd it worked.

I'm sure if they can do mobile scanning units in car parks, mobile dentists and nurses could set up in every school.

its all down to cost and the availability of staff to do such things. at a guess you could go back to the easly days of the NHS with free dentists and glasses as well. problem is are people willing to pay the extra on tax and nat. insurance contributions to cover all of it. mention any tax rise at an election and that party seels its death warrent. health care was never free and its about time there is a serious disscussion of whats the best for public in the future.

The resources which are already there could be allocated to provide the mobile services and would definitely give time back in the bigger picture. Or even award private practice the contracts?

Schools, colleges, care homes, etc could easily be better serviced by mobile units which would offer huge efficiencies imo. Much of the money that goes to the NHS is wasted due to inefficieny so why not improve instead of just chucking more money down the pan? Military strategists and planners would imo be good at managing the services instead of the hugely top heavy management systems currently in place.

really you give a good case for private health care and the downside of all nationalised or council run industries.

We pay enough into the system, and if the NHS was run like an efficient private company (where every penny is a prisoner) then the availability and expertise would be far better than presently. Every crisis within the NHS can only be fixed by throwing more money at it according to those who run it orcare responsible for it.

Get a full independent review of the entire workings with time and motion studies and apply the findings. Asking those who run a broken system to fix their system with a seemingly never ending cash supply is madness.

I realise as you say most nationalised and council run services are the same, but none affect so many people as frequently as the NHS.

you,ll find the vast majority of those who work or have worked for the nhs at the coal face will agree with what you are saying and have agreed for many years. therefore why have we never seen a change in it apart from more money thrown down the pan like diversity managers and rainbow crossings painted on the roads.

The trouble is dentists make a lot more money with their list of regular patients mostly coming in for check ups and cosmetic work.
Anybody with raging too that ache and not on the client list had better go and look for fight………those without the financial clout are ignored, where do they go….?

I think if you did that there could be mass redundancies as loads on non medical jobs would be identified. It was recently revealed the defence industry waste billions but nothing is ever done about it.

Not at all but the solution to the NHS problems appears to be is just throw money at it with no idea where it’s being directed at.
By all accounts iThe NHS has been starved of money over the years, we are now playing catch up but it’s too late.

Dentists are no longer taking NHS patients but only private ones, who can afford to pay private for a dentist.i had some crowns fitted over 10 years ago, it was classed as cosmetic, it cost me a £1000.

Last year 750,000 people arrived in Uk legally. How many new dentists would be required to treat them? How many new dentists were actually employed? Not enough. Hugh numbers of legal immigrants arriving are putting enormous strain on services of all types. Oh thats not to mention the illegals.
