Does anyone else feel as you become older the festive season has become an anti climax, too commercialised, I used to enjoy the build up but now it starts in October, in the next few weeks the Easter Eggs will be on the shelves.

Been on the shelves for weeks in some shops.
Historically Boxing Day used to be the launch day for next year's holiday ads campaign now its early December.
It was nice to see grandsons school performance was a traditional nativity play, don't know how the woke mob haven't been all over it though.

was that the year you came out and said you do not believe in father christmas. do not know if it was just me but i,ll admit that i have never enjoyed the day since leaving my parents house and getting married. made an effort when my lad was little but after that its been just another day to get through before the boxing day match. i actually went a step further and volunteered for work on christmas day to guarentee boxing day off.

I hate Christmas and New Year. People claim poverty and whinge about the cost of living crisis, but still can afford to buy shed load of presents, food, drink and Fireworks.

I'm so glad it's over for another 359 days to Christmas Day and 366 days to New Year.

was thinking about this fireworks thing. they started going off around my way about 6 in the evening. thankfully i went to bed just after 10 and slept through the midnight ones. since when was fireworks the must have thing when once they were confined to displays in capital cities. possibly those who are struggling more than others buy weekly supermarket saving stamps like we do all year from the co op and morrisons points scheme. bringing back the good old christmas clubs would help many more making it easier for them.

Generally as I get older I find I am less enthusiastic about most things, including, Christmas. I make an effort for the sake of the family but frankly I am glad when its over. The one exception to my lack of enthusiasm is football and Pools. Nowt beats the buzz of expectation and the elation of a win. Not had many wins over the last couple of years but the hope always remains.

Christmas for me is just another day. Don't put up any decorations and any cards are just opened and left in a pile.

Don't drink, so another reason to not get carried away with this time of year. I must be such a miserable sod that me and the wife don't buy each other any presents! I have so many unopened new pairs of socks, pants, shirts I'm sure I could open a shop.

you would not mind if christmas was just christmas and not one long holiday from before christmas day right up to january 2nd at the earlest depending which day it falls on. I,d hate to be ill on christmas day and have been waiting now 10 days for a car part as i havehad my regular pre christmas breakdown. you do not have to go back to the dickensian era to remember when ever whire coller workers only had christmas and boxing days off and new years day was only a holiday in scotland.

The gloss just left me. Everything was just same same same. I dreamed of Christmas Day in the sun. Am I any better. Partially, it’s the way I am wired. Some people are just more half glass empty thinkers than half glass full ones. The only times I am really happy is when I am playing tennis or football and playing a blinder. My Serotonin and Dopamine increase significantly. Watching Pools doesn’t help.

I have said for years X-Mas should be once every 3 years. Would be appreciated and looked forwards to alot more. Im the same in as every year passes i give slightly less a F..k ! too much hassle for one day. Dont get me wrong i enjoy the festive period but its just all a bit much for a dinner and some presents. We have decided we will vacate the UK every xmas going forwards. Rather spend the cash on a trip away and see more of the world. Norway looks pleasant this time of year as does Tenerife if the wife prefers some Sun.

If you fancy Tenerife you need to be booking now, it’s gets full up very early. btw I did spend Christmas and New Year in Tenerife a few years back and it rained most of the time although I have been several times since and the weather has been ok.

Any one who feels a bit down need to look in the mirror, I accept the Festive period can cause mental health problems though for some people.
I lost a very dear friend 15 minutes into 2024, he didn’t even reach State Pension age, cancer. One life live it, shrouds don’t have pockets, get it spent etc he used to say when people popped their clogs.

I was born Dec 25 1954, I got a call on Dec 25 2006 to say by mother had passed away. That was a shit drive down from Sunderland. Dec is generally shitty as I lost my son in 1986 aged 15.
