Just saw the ‘artist’s impressions’ of the new ‘apartments’ planned for the site.
They look like any block of flats on any estate anywhere, bland, functional and a disappointment.
Just my view.

But it isn’t a ‘shit’ building.

Yes the building isn’t but look at the land in front of the Staincliffe, how many apartments can they squeeze in. It wouldn’t be profitable in the developers eyes not use it.
The Staincliffe was owned by one of the son in laws of the Yuills years ago, the first thing they did was build bungalows round the back on the tennis courts.

Some things are more important than the profit.

But that’s not the point that I was making though Jamie.
I am only referring to the style of building they’re getting to replace the Staincliffe. You can get some stylish new buildings in sympathy with the conservation area, but the offering is poor gruel from a design perspective, I expected better, a bit like trading your E type Jag in for a Transit box van…practical but style free.

Cheap and cheerful Snowy it will be, haven’t they tried to mimic the terrace houses on the left, I don’t think it’s practical to have loads of glass frontage as it’s facing directly on to the sea, they could have used a brighter brick colour though instead of the dull grey colour.

They sound as if they are not in keeping with the rest of the area regarding their design. in some areas this would certainly mean that planning permission would be denied.

Depends on the taste of the planning committee I suppose…look at that abomination of a sculpture on the opposite side of the road stuck on the sea wall. It looks like a giant toilet block holder with soft rainbow colours radiating out, just how could anyone have passed that….?

When it comes to Councillors on planning committees, some would artex the ceiling of the Sistine chapel and pat themselve’s on the back for covering over them ‘daft scribbling’s by that Michelangelo gadgie’ …

I was just having this conversation with the wife as im confused with this whole Staincliffe situation ?

Their bar is back open - they have opened a new fish and chip shop in the old sports bar (restaurant side) ?

they are supposedly taking on weddings and fulfilling older previous bookings?

to me it looks like someone is trying to resurrect it as a hotel and not completely demolish the building?

or are they going to keep the building and just turn the full lot into flats ?

They can’t have the place lying empty paying for security etc, they might as try and make some money till all the planning permissions come through, it might get knocked back and have to be re submitted.

Don’t the Planning Committee go by the recommendations of the Planning Engineers who are not Councillors ?

Temporary…we went in a month ago for lunch and it’s been thoroughly spruced up inside, but…..I suspect a couple of ‘apartment’ blocks will win but be a poor substitute from an aesthetic point of view….
Is the Staincliffe in the Seaton conservation area, because what I’ve seen of the ‘iconic’ replacement for the Staincliffe doesn’t look the part.
