I've had good responses from others about this so I thought I would bring it up here:

Is Pete Doherty this generations sex, drugs and rock and roll?

Whenever the conversation of Pete Doherty comes up I'm often faced with the opinions that he is a idiot, making a mockery of the justice system, a out of control drug addict and a bad example to our youth.

Yes I believe he is all of these but whether you like his work or not, the fact remains that he is an amazing musician, a great singer (when not drunk/mashed) and very smart and interesting young man. His appearence on Johnathan Ross showed that even behind his messed up life, he's more than just a drug fueled maniac.

Now I'm not a random fan and I'm not condeming what he has done but when I visit my mum (my Dad agrees with me on this) and she starts complaining about the youth today I just get the feeling that shes a tad hypocritical. How can she and others like her look back on the Sex, drugs and rock and roll era and have nostalgic feelings. The media use the time period as a common popular advertising tool and the bands that preformed then are just as or even more infamous for their wild behaviour than he is.

It's not really a discussion about Pete Doherty to be honest but more how the British publics reactions can be slightly clouded or manipulated by outside sources.

I thought Doherty (Babyshambles) was very good last December in Boro, far from being an idiot I got the impression he is just platying the media along.Maybe he does have a drug habit, but I really dont believe its out of control,in fact I would say the opposite.Notice how he only seems to get nicked when theres records or gigs on the horizon.
I think the babyshambles album is a good album as well as The Libertines too.

well he is now officially a millionaire, after his band signed their first management deal mr elves, so clearly he isnt daft.

his band are also close to selling out the metro arena at 26 quid a pop so he is also quite popular.

It will all be stuffed up his nose/barse in a few years

I've seen more talent on Stars in their eyes

I thought you were the church going Christian Mr Glasses, and I was the agnostic, but wishing somebody dead for their actions, no matter how much of a dickhead he may be, can't be right, can it?

You've never wished someone who is the epitome of evil, such as Pol Pot, dead, or said 'i'm glad he's dead'?

Just because someone is evil and kills other people, doesn't mean that killing them will solve everything. I know the Bible has a quote for everything, and 'an eye for an eye' will be put forward here, but in a civilised society 'two wrongs do not make a right'. If you believe in a greater power controlling us all, or even if you don't, killing the killer makes you no better than them.

I didnt say it did, but i was simply asking if you have wished anyone dead, i know I have, even if I didnt mean it, it happens!

I probably have wished someone dead, in a weaker moment, and if someone was to kill someone close to myself, I probably would, but that still wouldn't make it right.

wooooaaaaahhhh there !!!!!

pol pot, adolf hitler, pete doherty ????? he is a singer ffs.

i too would like mr elves to justify his comment. it should make for interesting reading.

I was merely using those names as an example of people who some may wish death upon

Anyway, Pol Pot was a better singer, as was Adolf

Doherty is a waste of space, but each to their own I suppose
