Hurst even? Roger Hunt died two years ago.

RIP Bobby Charlton, my favourite player ever since I was a 12 year old kid watching the 66 World Cup.

Yeah Sir Bobby Charlton great footballer and gentleman sportsman with the thunderbolt shot. Remember that screamer against Mexico which according to legend stopped the traffic back in Mexico City. RIP Sir Bobby.

Survived the Munich air crash, aged 21, and although he last played for Man U in 1973 he did then play for Preston before going out to Australia for a further 6/7 years.

Unfortunately never made up with Jack before he died, over Bobby never visiting his mother before she had died.

A true gentleman, RIP.

What was telling to me, was his wife Norma saying when he started playing, his aim was to get enough money together to buy a greengrocers shop for when he retired from the game ….ironic eh?

Apparently it was dear old Norma fell out with BC's mother that caused the rift between the brothers.

As none of us know the real background to the events, best leave it, families are funny things.

Had the pleasure of meeting the great man on two separate occasions. The 1st time he was at Pools in the old wooden stand director's box ...me and my mate aged around 11yrs spotted him during the game and typical of younguns started climbing up the stand over the wooden benches and people to get a autograph. He signed our programmes and quietly said boys you must go back quickly you are upsetting the people enjoying the game so we did. 2nd time I was in my early twenties I spotted Bobby with his trilby hat & rain mac standing alone on the empty terrace Clarence Road side. I decided I have to go and say hello to him and also apologise for the last time I seen him at Pools even though it was around 12 years before. He was extremely polite but very very shy for a man who won the World Cup etc. I did apologise but he had no real recollection of our last encounter and simply laughed it off. Only 3/4 minutes of his time but very grateful to be in the presence of such a legend.
I still struggle to understand two things ..why was he standing on open terrace on a freezing cold night when he was this legend of a player sctatchinghead How can a man who achieved so much success for English football be so extremely shy and also a total gentleman. The plastic so called super star players of today on stupid money and big egos could well take a leaf out of the great mans book. Sir Bobby Charlton was a one off and will be sadly missed in the football World by millions of people R.I.P.

yes, best to just remember him on what we saw him do on the pitch and nothing else. not the time for stories about him now.
