The government are going to give Tata Steel £500 million to build 2 Electric Arc Furnaces costing £1.2 billion, why can’t the U.K. build our own furnaces ?

You won't get much "Steelworks" for £500 million.

Tata produce steel at Port Talbot, the government with their green agenda want to de- carbonise steel production so there’s a choice of having to modernise or even shut down blast furnaces and use electric arc furnaces to stay in business…. The say the government are making them do it so the government should contribute to wards the cost, because all the steelworks around the world who aren’t decarbonising will have a big advantage,
It’s just another part of the price we pay for the governments Net Zero policy.

The government are giving Tata £500 million but there are going to be thousands of redundancies?
Yes the U.K. is leading the way of decarbonising at a huge cost to us, how many other steel producing countries are following suit, I think there will be very few same as the green energy schemes.

Trouble is Jamie, Sunak confirmed his policy on net zero yesterday and the other Party’s are even more keen to follow, so the UK steel industry would be operating at a huge disadvantage compared to the rest of the worlds steel industry , we are shooting ourselves in the foot because of the politicians wanting to follow net zero and the costs will ensure there will be job losses.
The real trouble is comments yesterday that we have to lead the way to show the world the route to follow is absolute bollox. Do these people think the world look up to us and follow our every lead like it was the days of empire, do they hell, our elite are out of touch, lacking practical experience and frankly orbiting the planet Woke….even the green Germans have put back the date of stopping petrol and diesel car production but Sunak stands defiant like a latter Day Davi Crockett at the Alamo and we all know how that turned out.

Up bright and early as usual Snowy,
Your second paragraph is 100% correct, in our past we were Great Britain but now we should just say Britain as no one takes a blind bit of notice of us now. In some respects I think we are a bit of a laughing stock in the eyes of the world.
If Trump does get re elected all the States green policies will be thrown out the window.
