WTF does he know about life and politics at 25 years old, I can understand why Johnson
made Charlotte Owen a life peer, she had too much on him ?
Labour's Keir Mather has become the youngest MP in the Commons after being sworn in on Monday. Aged 25, he overturned a 20,137 Conservative majority to win the North Yorkshire seat of Selby and Ainsty for Labour in July's by-election. Hull-born Mr Mather has been nicknamed the "baby of the House".

on the surface you are correct however i doubt he is the youngest MP ever if anyone is bothered to look it up. the only thing i wonder is was he expected to win the seat and was only giving it a go as the party thought he was one for the future anyway.

I'm sure Mairi Black of the SNP was only 20 when she won her seat- she's standing down at the next election after two terms in office at the ripe old age of 28

Regarding being the "baby of the house", one of them had a very short tenure and never entered the house of commons.

Wondering who..? Well it was a certain Mr Bobby Sands, who also had a street named after him in Iran following his death. It is the street where the British Embassy is located.

I'll resist the urge to do the "what's Bobby Sands' phone number?" joke...

25 year old MP.
School, Senior School, 6th form, Uni…..part researcher,…. Candidate, pliable puppet, obedient follower. No experience of anything.
Nothing wrong with a 25year old MP with real life experience though….. bit odd for a 25 year old though.

Whilst you can't put an age limit on it- I'm inclined to agree that you should have some other proper real life experience of the world

It's the same with teachers - the ones who have NO real life experience outside of Education - that have only ever been to school.

Me being a teacher (who has real life experience away from education prior to getting back into the system) generally find these fuckers insufferable. They tend to be the ones that boil my piss on an almost daily basis, and give the profession a bad name due to their constant naval gazing and lack of real life perspective!

spot on. always found the ones from my school days that took up teaching later to be far better and interesting people who you behaved better in class with and did your best than the ones who knew little else but classrooms. my mates wife was one of those who was quite insufferable until she left teaching and became a far more rounded individual.

Starmer has appointed Rayner as the Shadow Deputy PM as well as the job of Shadow Levelling Up Secretary, whilst you should never judge a person by their appearance, accent or their past the right wing media will have a field day, I think Starmer has made a huge mistake.

its possibly just to keep the left wing of the party happy and make labour feel more working class and an extra appeal to northern voters. having another male starmer type in that job would hardly drag people into the poll booths to vote for them.

You know fu@k all at 25. I know fu&k all at 62. There is no middle ground in British politics. Sunak is right of centre and Starmer is in no man’s land. The UK is a boat without a paddle . First thing I would do is have proportional representation. Then revise the tax system more fairly related to income. In my home country the rich get richer and the poor poorer. I like the Scandivanian system better. Not perfect but better than ours

Notable people who were the "baby of the house" include Woy Jenkins (27), John Profumo (25) and Tony Benn (25) - the latter two holding the distinction of being the baby twice.

Profumo got it back after his successor died, and Benn got his first one on a technicality of swearing his oath to parliament the day before the 23 year old Thomas Tevan did. Thus Benn was only the baby for one day. He got his title back when Tevan was defeated at the next election.

Now wasn't that interesting...!

I can agree with what you say but irrespective of what you thought about Michael Foot or Jeremy Corbyn the right wing media went out of their way to discredit them.
When you say working class not many people on the street actually know that it means them, some class themselves as middle class because they have a big house and 2 cars.

the fact is most people are working class but refuse to admit to it in fear of being thought like the old industrial traditional working class were. think women are the worst for this and my old mans theory of the tories would never be ellected if women did not have the vote does feel to have some truth behind it.

Corbyn and Foot were dreamers.
Most people think because they’ve got a ‘nice’ house with all mod cons, his n hers 4x4 bragwagons, two holidays a year multiple maxed out credit cards and pretensions of grandeur they think they’ve arrived…probably at County Court when their balloon bursts.
