Interesting that UEFA’s chief of football said they won’t be adopting the “absurd” amounts of stoppage time which were brought in by England's refereeing body PGMOL this season. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66667887

The average extra time added on in most English games will add up to playing an extra 6 games over the season. This will be even more of a burden on teams like Pools as we have smaller squads and are only allowed three subs, unlike the Premiership. We are already seeing the effects on our squad.

PGMOL have a lot to answer for, always f@&!ing about with the rules and introducing “improvements” that are unnecessary and just result in over complication.

I don't agree. If the refs stick to their guns and keep adding time on (and booking people for deliberate time wasting), teams will see there's no point in continuing to waste time on goal celebrations, fake injuries, substitutions etc. etc. and stoppage time will go down sharply.

Big 'if' as the backlash is gathering momentum. But UEFA's main interest - as ever - is keeping their paymasters the TV companies happy. Can't go messing up their schedules with unpredictable finishing times!

it will go away in the same way as that retreating another 10 yards did a few seasons back. one of the biggest time wasting is the new goal kick law when the ball used to be in play only after it left the penalty area. doubt time is added on for that. Its easier said than done when you take a throw in and find there is no one to throw it to and you get a caution for not throwing it quickly enough. one set of fans are always happy to see their side running the clock down then moan the next week when their opponents do the same. always find it funny when refs ignore players they feel go down easily in the penalty area but are quick to blow if its a defender doing it or anywhere else on the pitch.
