Good review . Sounds like a Gateshead fan with a Leeds accent. Masterclass by Askey by the sounds of it

"Askey Masterclass" Stark contrast to the Mail report which implies Pools were outplayed by Gateshead. Maybe the truth lies somewhere in between? Looking forward to watching the highlights whenever they appear.

they never outplayed us even though they had far more posession. that means sod all when you have nothing but a ball falling for you in the box that al your tippy tappy passing never created in the first place. didn,t take a football genious to show how to play against a team like them and askeys biggest credit was not allowing the players to get flustrated by playing without the ball. they,ll pick up points against others who have not got the patiance we had.

The Mail ‘reporter’s’ take on these things does tend accentuate the negatives, even if there aren’t any.

So much for Mike Williamson being a good shout for us if JA goes... it didn't feel like a masterclass for Poolies watching till the 90th minute. Just goes to show, football fans are only ever really happy with a winning team.

Mike Williamson is doing a cracking job for them considering their resources, and he's got them playing decent football mostly on the grass. Yes they're lacking a bit up front on yesterday's showing but I think there's a huge amount of credit due to our lads for not letting them create much. They all must've been well and truly knackered after all the running they did, thought their left winger was a danger but after the sending off and Seaman reverting to full back I don't think he got past him at all. Our much maligned defence overall did very well even though we conceded a scrappy goal, and good protection from Mancini and Crawford. Even Cooke put in a shift and was fit enough to go on the late run and provide the assist.
Might not be pretty but I'd take that every game if we're getting the results, 3 points on Tuesday will make it a decent start to the season.

Worth saying Maidenhead also had a player sent off on Saturday, their Right Back.

Yep. Last time they played us at the Vic they battered us. Challinor was boss at the time but it was one of our nightmare defensive days when the wheels fell off as I recall.

Challinor tried to play a diff system and shit the bed, exposes why he will never be anything more than a lower league manager

I thought the lad did a good review - you could feel his pain through the lense!
Nice to get a slightly different perspective from the one we see. Maybe things aren't that bad after all!
The Heed will certainly be competitive and take points off some of the teams near the top.

Thought his preamble to the game was interesting when he said how pissed off he and his fellow Heedites were that the games between us weren't over the festive period- thought that was spot on!

I was impressed by the lad, he didn’t try to talk the team up but was just frank in a mannered way….It’s funny how when you listen to the opposition view you think well maybe we aren’t too bad as some people would have us believe after all.

most fans criticise their own team and players more than the opposition fans do especially in defeat.
