3-1 lead at half-time. I know its only a friendly but a 3-1 lead at half time is a positive.

11 changes for Pools, couple of our Academy lads on - and it's 3-2 now. My money's on a 3-3 finish.

I bet all the travelling Mackems are severely peed off. They are not used to getting a damned good thrashing unlike us Poolies.

6268 attendance. Must be close to capacity. Sounds like a bloody good night all round. I know, I know, its only a friendly but lets enjoy it before the real world kicks in on Saturday.

This should give the players a real boost of confidence going into the Barnet game.

Well that was a shock some of the football played from pools in the 1st half was excellent the movement speed Sunderland could not cope with it truly excellent from pools.
Some will say well its only a friendly how ever the way we played on the front foot organised and the only shot Sunderland had was the free kick they scored from and he put it in the top corner.
Well played pools

Sunderland must have had one other shot because they scored two goals.

Weak opposition but was impressed with how quickly we closed them down instead of the opponents play keep the ball.
Plus it stops our previously midfield getting by passed.

Better to guage our prospects about October when reality kicks in.

Not closing players down has been our Achille’s heel for a long time, thank God we appear to have a manager who actually has a plan.

the result and game means very little really. saying that no matter what the opposition is like its still better to win a game. some players get upset losing a 5 a side on the training ground.

Got to expect that with our opening game looming, that last night's starting line up, formation, and tactics will be close to how he intends to play. So even though it wasn't a strong Sunderland side it looks like massive strides forward from our humiliation last season at the hands of Everton kids.
I'm optimistic for the new season and can't wait for KO, mind I always am and it's been quickly curbed more times than I can remember.

But if you are a fan of a Championship team you would not be expecting a 5-2 hammering by the likes of Pools even if the players were not all first teamers. Imagine how we would feel getting hammered 5-2 by Tow Law Town? In the end the result means nowt but there will be some upset Mackens around the town with lads taking the pish at those in Mackem shirts. All good stuff.

We just need to get off to a good start, no stupid early mistakes and if we can come away with a point, then it will be a sight better than last time we were in this league.

Looks like we have our starting 11, mani d and Wallace aside

Still really need someone with grit in midfield we are left with
Featherweight Crawford or treacle running Dolan making out the 3, neither of which should be near our starting 11

Askey in a recent interview did state he still needed a holding midfielder….and it’s comical seeing some of the views of the Sunderland fans after anticipating a comfortable win by several goals falling back on it he ‘well it was only our kids’ line of defence within 90 minutes.
The best quote of all was “Hartlepool only scored five because our defenders made mistakes!” …er, that’s how most goals are actually scored in real life.

The manager gives me hope, but we will see how long that lasts because nk one sticks round long at pools nowadays.

Well until I win the lottery that’s all we have got.
Mind you the wife will want to get involved, so while the football may need some sorting, the reception will be immaculate and the terraces smell of bleach. sadx

the only way JA will be leaving Pools this season is if a League club comes in for him or Macclesfield get some super rich owner and offer him prem wages at that level - he will build us an ever better team as the season goes on and im sure come xmas time we have another few lads through the door to help us get back in the FL.

Loyal Fan.
Where you at the Sunderland game? If so, you must have been watching a different Tom Crawford to me as he was not Featherweight and, in my opinion, had an excellent game.

Crawford when he's fit is decent at this level, he's hardly been fit for the last 18 months or so. He was one of our better players in the promotion season, the main thing he needs to improve on is his goal scoring imo, certainly ok at most things required of a midfielder including strength and tackling. Writing him off after the injuries he's had is a bit premature.

I think how players play in friendlys is different to how they do in the real league

Crawford a classic example on that--his biggest weakness is knocked around too easily----if he has bulked up and improved on that we have a player....if not will be another year of flattering to deceive.
I expect if everyone fit our first choice midfield 3 would be Wallace, Cooke and Mancini
Interested (and hopeful) to see how Mancini does when the real football starts.
