No mention on either club's website. Redcar treating the game as a very big deal - mind you their food and drink offer is better than a lot of bigger clubs! Pools are giving 3 of the Academy lads a run out. Sort of game where you hope nobody picks up an injury from an over-enthusiastic tackle.

5-1 was final score with Wreh scoring the 5th from the spot. A good run out, I guess.

it is a good run out but would have been happier seeing us play a few league 2 sides instead of the fixtures we set up. really tells no one anything when you play teams you should beat or put up a good performance against.

No point playing teams from higher up the leagues and getting played off the park, can be demoralising in the pre season leading into the season.

These type of games have gone on forever. Newcastle, Boro and Sunderland have played not only Pools but Darlo,York, Gateshead, Blyth etc. Managers say these games are just about fitness.

Pre-season fixtures are more about building match fitness and team spirit than results. Pools usually play a couple of northern league-type sides in pre-season so this one hasn't been the softest.

Barnet were doing the same thing last night, had a 5-0 win at Dunstable Town. Nicke Kabamba was one of their scorers.

know its allabout match fitness and other clubs follow similar fixtures as pools do. however it could be interesting seeing which teams get the better starts. the ones with the easier pre season friendly games or the ones with a more rigerous ones .

Like JA quoted last night its also about giving back to the smaller clubs and giving them their payday just like it is for us when the Toon and Sunderland come to town - much nicer fixtures this preseason and builds confidence and sharpens tools. Sometimes playing this lower sides gives our lads the possession game we require too - helps with formations and tactics. Playing teams above us all throughout the pre season wouldnt have the same affect and id imagine getting dicked every game would do anyone any favours.

Part of a message from the Redcar Chairman...

Hartlepool United – the Chairman, officials,
management team, players and supporters – thank you for playing the game and helping us record a record attendance and a great occasion. The supporters of Hartlepool United were simply amazing and a credit to the club and we wish you all the very best in your forthcoming League campaign.

Finally, but certainly not least our very own band of volunteers who were just fantastic. Working under extreme pressure at times in torrential rain they are amazing and simply the best.

Thank you everyone, what an amazing night.
