I went to see his first game for Forest under Cloughie just so I could see the first million pound kick. Great player.
R I P Mr Francis.

Pretty sure Cloughie told him on his first match day to forget about putting his strip on because he was not playing today but would instead be making the halftime cuppa for the players. Not sure but he may have been tea boy for a few more games before making his debut sctatchinghead

Bit before my time as a player in his prime- But he came across as a decent bloke who did well to shoulder the million pound man tag by winning back to back European Cups with Cloughie.

Been a rough day for the Forest fans - just heard that Chris Bart- Williams has also departed aged just 49!

RIP both

RIP both

both younger than you would expect but at least they left memories behind for fans of the game. far too many sportsmen seem to be dying before their time.

Caught an interview with him from a couple of years ago on the Radio by chance last night and his relationship with Cloughie was one of puzzlement….Cloughie wanted him to play one way and Peter Taylor told him to play another way sctatchinghead

Never heard that one before but it sounds typical of Cloughie but he did play the day I went. My first million pound player experience. I believe it was against Bristol City but don't quote me on that.

Reminds me when Bill Nicholson signed Jimmy Greaves for Tottenham in December 1961 for £99,999 to stop him being the first player to sign for £100,000.

How things changed with Trevor Francis being signed in February 1979 for the magical £1 million.
