They’re getting a makeover, apparently the woke new boss has decided they’re going to appeal to ‘idealistic young readers’ whatever they are
Some of the characters will have to go …. Fatty and Plug for starters. sadx
The teacher and headmaster will be going surely, after all they’re men.
And the traditional mountain of chips with pies, sausages and fried eggs sticking out will be a no no.
What next, Dennis the Menace and Softy Walter going to dance therapy together.Oh dear.

I heard they were changing the title from "The Bash Street Kids" to "The Stab Street Kids" because it is more relevant to modern Britain and it is stunning and brave.

In all seriousness, thins is what’s really happening……….
The ’strict’ teachers have now been replaced by ‘nurturing figures’. Fatty and Spotty are to be called Freddy and Scotty to ensure young people who have freckles, weight problems or acne are not taunted by their ‘peers’.
They’ve also introduced five new Bash Street kids.
The new figures are Mandira Sharma whose anxieties will highlight ‘mental health issues’.
Artist Khajida Raad.
Ginger haired scientist Rudi von Screwtop, is in a wheelchair.
Maharaja Salim has Dreams of becoming the first Pakistani Premier League football star.
Black Ghost Hunter Memima Jones.
The Beano ‘Creative Director’ said the Bash Street Kids until now was all white only had one girl, had become anachronistic.
FFS it’s a comic strip not a political comment on society.

in my words, its an absolute load of bollocks. the thing is all this change stuff is actually funnier than the comics themselves.

Actually the comic had received a letter in 2018 in all innocence, from a kid who said Rees Mogg looked Lord Snooty. The comic then had a dig at Rees Mogg, by sending him a ‘cease and desist’ notification….. comics and politics don’t mix.

What I can’t understand is the reference to kids with freckles being taunted sctatchinghead
I don’t know if they realise that most freckles are gingers and taunting a ginger is unwise as they tend to snap easily…as I can testify.
Also these new arrivals at what appears to be a downtown junior school would hardly have kids who profess to be ….
A ginger scientist in a wheelchair.
An artist.
A potential Premier League star
A ghost hunter..
A child with mental health issues.
It’s the script for another unfunny Channel 4 comedy surely….?

Will the changes increase the circulation of the Beano? Highly unlikely. The changes are purely political. The people providing the impetus for these changes dont represent the type of people whose kids would actually read the Beano but rather self-appointed cultural gate keepers.

didn,t the nazi,s say something about getting kids early to brainwash em with propaganda. interfearing with kids is not all about sexual stuff by a long way. not too much difference from the modern regressive attitudes to them from the modernists than the damage paedo,s can do.

They must have passed me by as couldn't give you any names associated with them.

Bit like watching Impossible yesterday when in the final question it was about Harry Potter and the unlucky contestant knew bugger all about it - bit like me, never watched it!

I know of one lad who bought a tape of the aged classic Debbie does Dallas back in the day.
He was a bit disappointed after playing the tape, which was indeed what he said it was to discover his ‘version’ edited out the sex scenes.

it passed by many kids around when it came out. its something where a few know everything about it but the majority do not. possibly many harry potter books were bought at christmas and birthdays for kids that remained unread.

They've just put the cost of my subscription up as well. Whatever next?! My kids have read The Beano and loved it for the last few years. It's different to when I read it is a kid, but still a lot of fun.

might have been even more fun if they had just left it alone instead of trying to put visual messages in it and totally pointless changes.

Apparently Dennis the Menace is still the same 10 year old kid he was in the 50’s, ‘but with different references’….. that sounds a bit Orwellian.
I suspect ‘different references’ mean he’s changed completely

The panorama of celebrities said it all and Ant and Dec was the icing on the gravestone.

‘Different references’ is one of those creepy woke terms that tells you absolutely nothing but indicates drastic change.

its not progression its the complete opposite. walking on permanent egg shells to avoid being labelled a fascist if you treat a minority as a minority and not the majority. a dick is a dick no matter what sex, gender or colour of their skin is and for me they,ll be tret exactly the same without fear or favour.

I watched a young girl reviewing ’Married with Children’ and despite laughing non stop, she still insisted you couldn’t make programmes like that today. sctatchinghead
It was obviously really funny to her but then the Puritan kicked in and she said it would offend to many groups of people if made today.
I suppose it depends on what you regard as ‘offensive’ ….but comedy without taking risks is what you get now, but what one finds offensive another does not, so are we to reduce everything to the lowest humourless common denominator?
The odd thing is, the people who proclaim this are quite capable of producing vile material about those who don’t share their stunted views, but then it’s supposed to be acceptable….

I suppose it depends on what you regard as ‘offensive’ ….but comedy without taking risks is what you get now, but what one finds offensive another does not, so are we to reduce everything to the lowest humourless common denominator?
The odd thing is, the people who proclaim this are quite capable of producing vile material about those who don’t share their stunted views, but then it’s supposed to be acceptable….

if you are a tory, christian, white, straight , pro law and order and brexit they can offend you as long as they like for their humour. just waiting for some so called commedian to have a bernard manning type act that will outwoke the woke with jokes about all those who i have mentioned.

Funnily enough, last night on a news review about the Beano, they said they welcomed the influx of new characters in modern Britain.
Fair enough, in modern Britain, but I always saw the Bash Street Kids as stuck in some 50’s / 60’s time warp that never changed but exaggerated things, as most children in those days wouldn’t dare push the slightest boundaries.
So in that case just leave it as it was. We don’t expect to constantly review the past and change things to accommodate needy people… I’m surprised the twelve Apostles haven’t been extended to eighteen to bring up to date and more relevant..as they say.

does not matter what era the bash street kids was set in. anyone must realise by now watching bbc drama,s that even in the 18th century we had a very diverse population back then as we have now. it was all right wing bollocks of just white kids around and needed changing years back. did the comic receive funding from the KKK to infaltrate the minds of the young.
