Quick takeaways -

He'd like 4 more players - another right back, midfielder, attacker and a wide man - but no names were discussed and the trialists weren't mentioned.

Umerah - Pools have had good offers for him but have turned them down - so far. If the money's right and he wants to go, etc, etc.

Featherstone - gone. JA expressed some regret at losing him but terms couldn't be agreed.

Sylla - not a hope in hell that he will appear in a Pools shirt again. Thinks he's a little shit (not JA's exact words...) - anyway refused to turn up for pre-season.

He's confident Pools are strong enough to compete at the top end of the NL this season (some will reckon he would say that wouldn't he, but bull really isn't this man's style).

There is a summary on Mail website but they didnt mention Sylla or Featherstone. Probably planning to drip feed that information over the next three days.

Aye, they’ll be dragging it out with a long winded features that goes round the houses but tells you nothing new.

If it is true that the triallists actually are in Scotland then I would expect the interviewer would have brought them into the mix but I suspect JA wants as little exposure as possible to their prospects at the moment. if there is to be exposure then JA doesn't want to fan it. Just a guess really but it makes sense to me at least. otherwise I am sure they would have been discussed.

JA is a class act - very measured in what he says, offers no bullshit unlike previous incumbents and answers questions put to him in a professional manner. He doesn't get too carried away with a win (admittedly not had that many) or too despondent in defeat. The players clearly like him, though get the impression that they know that he's in charge and not to take the piss.
I may be being optimistic but believe that once he has got some of his own players bedded in and they all know there individual roles in the team that we'll be closer to the top than the bottom

It's standard practice to keep tight lipped about any potential signing till the player has put pen to paper. Otherwise a manager and a club can end up looking very stupid. Surprising really how some fans don't seem to get this - we're not at a level of football where there are agents and middlemen constantly leaking snippets of information to the media.

Its wise after this time last year to judge JA on results.
Hes certainty working under tough conditions if a deal for Featherstone cudent be agreed.

Ruff idea about mid October what direction the clubs going!

Askey comes across as a straightforward bloke with no sign of artifice: he tells it like it is. I loved it when after outlining the situation with Sylla he said "He's not worth talking about". Astounding honesty.

I suspect he was’t too bothered about Featherstone signing or not signing.
I assume he thought a new contract in a lower division was fitting and to be blunt Featherstone was never gonna be a first team fixture …..and given his age I assume Askey thought he was the one doing Featherstone a favour.

True. We can only go on what he has done so far and I think he has got more right than wrong.

doubt we would be talking about playing woking and dorking next season if he was appointed after challinor or lee left.feel when he walked into the club he had one of the hardest jobs any new pools manager has ever had.

If he'd been appointed straight after Hartley was sacked last September I think we'd have stayed up. Keith Curle was another dud.

not sure if he is a nice guy as by the look of him i would not want to cross him. do not know if he is approachable or not. anyway not bothered anyway as long as he brings success to pools as thats his main job and not talking to fans or doing a stand up comedy role on youtube.

Just having Askey on board for the new season fills me with a lot more confidence than the scottish experiment at the start of last season.

Yes totally agree with everyone else' sentiments of the man, hes a class act and doesnt beat around the bush with the standard media manager shite we have had poured down our throats for so long. He knows this league, knows how to be successful and knows what he wants in achieving it. I got alot more out of that 20 mins than i have out of the club and the mail for the last 3 years, an to be honest believed it all too.

The Umerah thing was interesting and i was surprised he offered the info he did - I can only imagine we are awaiting some crazy figure Raj has in mind to see him on his way - but we cant risk upsetting the lad and having him sulking round the pitch until January when the League window opens back up - if he gives it 100% and notches 10 goals and then leaves then so be it. Sylla ... enough said what a silly boy !

He will bring some exciting times back to this football club and will have us playing nice stuff like we seen last season albeit none where his players. Be a totally different start - be confidence id assume brimming for the players to get going in the same manner we finished in last season which tbh was actually decent like he mentioned in the interview. Lets get behind him and hopefully see 4k crowds weekly for the lads. We are and always will be the 12th man and it works !

I think we will see those 4 players he requires - some maybe loans but i reckon if we get the recruitment bang on come Barnet and are simply just topping up the numbers come Xmas then we are definitely in for a good season and a good start too!!!

Looking at the training clips on Twitter in Scotland it looks very intense so at least the players should be fit, no slacking from any of them, they appear to be enjoying it.

always remember speaking to a former Pools player who had played at Championship level and he said Pre Season at some lower level clubs was like normal training at that level - the intensity at the bigger clubs is astounding he was telling me - some PTs at the clubs just work the lads raw where some clubs that dont have that level just dont do it - id imagine its day and night compared to the PH regime similar last year.

Like Askey a lot--he seems a realist---his point around people not liking him as much if he gets some bad results was valid.
I expect it may be a slow start and we will all have to try and keep our patience.

You could well be right, Regarding slow starts.
Think Askey has had 1 or 2 in the past.
Does not bother me when you can see the honesty in the man.

Don't think so myself. I reckon Pools will strike for the top early on and not fanny around middle to just above to creep into play off contention. Here to be shot at mind.

instilling confidence in the players is worth a few more points at the end of the season. think we all could do more if we were confident at doing things. one thing i doubt there are any poolies who will start the season having a downer on the bloke who cannot wait to put the boot in.
