Owen Bailey - this could happen (local lad) and was rumoured before too

Williams was signed by JA before im sure so this again could fly - but am sure he will have his admirers still in the league been only 24.

Dan Ward - probs miss out on him tbh.

the fail had a decent story yesterday of all the free agents we could look at and there was 2 lads on there which would be a great addition - think it was the winger from Bradford and the forward from Port Vale - whom im sure we have been linked with before.

there was Agard on their too but hes another Leon Clarke him - crap

Richard Nartey, defender freed by Salford is being linked on twitter. Not played a lot of football for a 24 year old.

most of our opponents next season will have many players who were at a premier league club. they also fail to say it was at their acadamy or at best the youth team. they live on that as they drop down the leagues but always find a club because they have that on their CV. anyone that hasn,t would be lucky to even get a trial nowadays as they have got to be seen to make the system work.

I’ve got two Chelsea players living in the shed for Ratboy to chase around the garden to keep fit…..on loan.

They clearly mean business this season the amount of deals they've done so far

Fortunately we've manage to dodge yet another Luke James return after he signed for South Shields- think he lost his shooting boots on the train to Peterborough all those moons ago.

For a lad with such promise he has achieved very little in the game. I suppose he can say he made a living as a professional footballer but that's about it. Its a shame.

Another ex Pools player who thought the grass was greener on the other side, how many ex players have actually moved on and had success at a higher level.
Don Hutchison, Jo Allon went to Chelsea but only lasted a season.Rob McKinnon had a decent career and nearly made it to the big time, he went on loan to Man. Utd but never played a game, eventually moving to Motherwell.

go back as far as you can and the better ones mainly made sideways moves and the rest went into obscurity quite quickly.

Going on still active players, if you ignore the Scottish Premiership, I can only think of Josh Laurent, who is currently playing in the Championship.

As I’ve posted before all the players who have left Pools in the past few years, Oats, Armstrong etc may have improved financialy non have improved career wise. Again it’s what you can afford or are prepared to pay.

even then i dount there are many pools fans earning more than our lowest earner in the squad. more of a case of players ripping the club off than pools ripping them off.

Granted, there haven't been many but there have been some. Keith Houchen, Andy Linighan, Dave Linighan, Tommy Miller off the top of my head.

The Oates, Armstrong saga is used frequently as a criticism.
The facts are Armstrong was Salford’s player to sell on and they did a deal with Harrogate ….yet another hobby club owned by someone with a lot of cash, I suspect more than Raj could match if he wanted to.
Oates offered a two year deal to play league 2 football close to home, not forgetting we weren’t certain of where we’d be playing till after the final whistle in the play offs…. And the extra income it would generate.
They had a choice and chose certainty over possibility…I don’t blame either of them for the choice they made.

Ozzy the players you mention were all sold unlike Oates and co who left for more money. Who can blame them we all move jobs for better money all I’m saying is they have not moved on career wise they are still playing lower club football.

Don Hutchison is another. Contrary to the comment above, he never played for Chelsea but had 10 seasons in the top flight, with Liverpool, West Ham (twice), Everton and Sunderland.

You could say though that they are now playing league 2 football rather than conference, so even though players like oates might not be kicking on they haven't gone backwards .

Must have some good scouts at Gateshead keep finding gems. The two lads that scored a hatful of goals last year for Notts county, came from there too.

Bailey would have gotten a game here, He,ll be a bench warmer at Donny
Judging by the squad they are putting togeather.

Another one for the CarShare with Mols and Sterry, Wonder why he chose Donny lol.

Stomper - again Gichrist and Dalton were sold, Brown I understand was disciplinary reasons, Todd can’t remember him but Venus was a youth team player (4 1st team games) who I was told turned down Pools offer.

Fair points. I was just thinking about players who had moved from Pools in any circumstances and had had decent careers. Lee Todd played for us around 1990. He went to Stockport on a free and played several seasons for them before their former manager, Dave Jones (remember him?), took him to the premier league with Southampton. Didn't play a lot and ended up at Bradford.

Seem to be going all out this year donny. Tough league that this year wrexham and Notts splashing ridiculous amounts of cash. Stockport who thought they were the Billy big bollocks of the league might have to take a back seat this year, now gillinghmam getting in on the act.

Isn’t it about time we reverted to some good old fashioned feet on the ground scouts rather than them pulling the lever on the one-arm bandit in the data files to see what floats to the surface.?

did lee todd ever play a first team game for us. around that period stockport had many players from the NE in their side. tony barrass, tony dinning and armstrongs old man alun plus possibly others i do not know about. all had decent careers playing higher up than them in the end.

did lee todd ever play a first team game for us. around that period stockport had many players from the NE in their side. tony barrass, tony dinning and armstrongs old man alun plus possibly others i do not know about. all had decent careers playing higher up than them in the end.
