They’re gonna build a community park on the site, hope they save the two art deco concrete friezes above the main entrance doors, they’d look nice in a park?

That's a fair point, I hope someone from the council..reliases the importance of them friezes, as outstanding works of Art Deco, I wonder, if they have a listed status

As the word demolition, doesn't bode well.

My understanding is the Art Deco is listed but not the building. They could be removed and put somewhere like a park or Seaton.
What Hartlepool needs is a massive demolition scheme for the Odeon,Engineers,Shopping centre market hall Fifth Avenue plus numerous others and the likes of the Wesley,Shades etc brought back to life.
Plans exist but are subject to funding which is all jam tomorrow promised with Uncle Ben beaming down the camera.
Nothing ever seems to happen and £10m is absolutely peanuts in the scheme of things.

Also the work on the rail station will not be finished in time for the Tall ships and the work to build the new leisure centre (it looks like a U Boat pen) and the Shopping Centre "remodelling"was supposed to start but has not. They have put a fence around the Wesley but apart from that nothing has happened.Shades and others still boarded up!
The politicians were claiming credit for these developments a few months ago but will they be held responsible for the delays or the non completion?
We are fed bullshit and we lap it up.

Rant over i am going for a pint and having an Aldi stir fry for dinner with some white vino callapso.

The new leisure centre looks like two shoe boxes having sex missionary style…..apparently the bumpf that comes with these designs was supposed to be in recognition of the sights former use…which was a mass of railway sidings full of wagons loading it props…so is to look like an empty railway wagon sctatchinghead
This relocation to the marina is going to make it a bit more inaccessible for kids on public transport.

Yes as you state there is no public transport to that area nor is there to Church Street/rail station although the "interchange" exists. There was a rumour that there would be an entrance to the rail station onto the platform that will be reopened towards the cinema but i have been told by a gadgie from Network Rail that is not going to happen.

mind you it would not be the first time something gets destroyed by a so called accident saving them money doing something with it. every time i,m up and pass it the big surprise was it still standing after expecting some large mystery fire to engulf the place. love art deco and our house is full of it from light fittings, shades, clocks all the way down to salt and pepper pots.

Just a few more grot spots to get rid of mostly owned or were owned by the Wilkies, 42nd Street and the 5th Avenue on Park Road to name a couple. What happened to the old Focus DIY place, it went on fire as well same as the place that was on Seaton seafront.

In the good old days the kids would break in and burn them to the ground and that would be the end of it.
Progress eh?

Apparently there’s a shortage of arsonists, you need a Arson Degree nowadays to qualify to Arson about and you can’t get them for love nor money.

Speaking of delinquent kids, why are the Welsh police getting it in the neck for chasing two lads on dirt bikes? It's very sad that they died, but such lads are a danger to themselves and others every time they take their bikes onto public roads. Had one behaving like a complete idiot on the road to Whitby just last weekend - did a U-y in front of a wagon coming towards him at about 60 mph.

I passed an E bike doing at least 40mph this morning…no helmet required, no test required, no insurance required, no registration required, o vehicle roadworthiness testing……and nearly all appear to used by micro chavs and 25-35 year old ‘teenagers’….
If these things get approved it’ll be a nightmare.

if its pedal powered, has the E or smart words infront of it the owners can do little wrong and know those at the top will do everything in their power to show support for them. they,ll be exempt from nearly everything and if you hit one with the car or as its known now, the vehicle of satan, you,ll be guilty till you prove your innocence.

E bike are limited to 15.5 mph on the flat (i have one) but those doing 40 mph are either tampered with or rigged up or imported.
Anything doing those speeds are classed as a motor bike and helmet, insurance, reg plate, tax etc etc are required.

I bought an E-hike, top speed was only 25mph, the starting torque was unbelievable, could have thrown you off, little or no suspension, I got rid after a few weeks before I killed myself.

Mr. Bluestreak is right a legal..E bike, scooter is restricted to 15.5 MPH.

I see that the bike the lad got was an early birthday present apparently...buy your son an illegal bike and unfortunately he kills himself and his mate...and somehow its the police fault.

The hourglass has finally been demolished after standing empty for ages after a major fire and there is now a sign on the Wesley saying its going to be a 36 bed hotel.
Rejoice Rejoice

they know they are going to do it before they buy them. same as young lads mess with their cars to get more power out of them or attempt to make em handle better. problem is that there knowledge and experiance are just not up to do it correctly or safely with mates egging them on also.

If the E bikes/ scooters become legal, road deaths will rise dramatically…and pavement deaths too, because most of the users are utter morons.

These are openly sold in places like Halfords. There is a small notice stating these cant be used on public roads etc etc.
Why doesnt the government simply ban the ownership and sale of them. Simple!!!!

exactly. on one hand we are asked to walk more for exercise and keeping the car at home and then walkers have something extra to avoid if they manage to avoid pedal bikes. no point saying whats illegal and whats not there is a good chance of no police being about to enforce it. pedestrians will need to attend courses on how to walk with elbows out and the best way to brace themselves for a future collision.

Steetley pier was due to be demolished this month but nowt has happened. It appears that there is a petition to get it saved.

What would be the point? The structure needs massive repairs and what would it be used for?

The piers greenheart and the vented caisson at the end is concrete…rather the money was spent repairing the Heugh breakwater.
Odd how pre 1967 old Hartlepool Council on the Headland could maintain it themselves ..or maybe they were better organised with only a Town Clerk to pay and not a pompous sounding Chief Executive.
