Instead of all the crap Parliament discusses almost entirely for benefit of inter party politics should they not start legislating on items that would make a real difference to ordinary peoples lives.

Here is one to start.

10p deposits on all cans and bottles and the litter problem would virtually disappear.

They can’t think like you and me, in general most are career politicians, never done a days work in their life, they have no idea what it’s like at the grass roots level.
When we were one of largest industrial nations in the world politicians in those days had worked/managed in an industry before moving into politics.
The only people who would benefit from the 10p deposits would be the scavengers raking through bins.
In Thailand you see people ripping black bags open for the plastic bottles, they get a £1 a kilo for the plastic, imagine how many to make a kilo ? glass bottles are returnable not sure what they are worth.

No excuses for Littering nowadays as most Councils provide plenty of public bins.
Noticed the pathways of our town are still riddled with Dogshit.
Put their owners in jail or up the fines.
Good dog owners will also be offended by this disgusting behavior.

Over here in Perth WA they have a 10 cents refund on almost all bottles cans and drinks cartons.
You don't see many discarded items littering the streets but you do see people going to the recycling "shop" with huge bags of cans and bottles.
The "shop" is a mini recycling centre and you just feed your items onto a conveyor belt and the system scans the item an adds ten cents to your total.
When you're finished you get a printed voucher which you can use at the local supermarket.
So when you buy a 24 pack of beer you're getting $2.40 back after recycling.........mind you, it's needed as the beers bloody expensive over here !!

But, as you say Mr. Bluestreak, it's a no brainer, but you're just talking common sense, why would a politician listen

know one thing collecting glass bottles made the day at seaton more interesting getting the deposits back for the few being left. go somewhere like blackpool and you felt like a millionaire. all kids loved doing stuff like that as they possibly would today and not ripping bags open to do it especially after getting a handfull of dog shit.

There used be a blue box for glass, a big canvas bag for cardboard not sure what else, the Council stopped that as it wasn’t economical. They introduced the grey bin which replaced the box and canvas bag I believe.

you are being too soft on em. i,d ban a visual screen inside the front of vehicles as well. anything visual distracting cannot help road safety. both eyes should be on the road permanently and if you do get lost just pull over safely and sort yourself out.

if only duel carriageways were that would make me a happy man. They need restricting in places they can pass as they seem to be only going 1 mph faster than the one they are passing and the A1 duel carriageway is a nightmare.

100% agree on the visual screen, they are definitely a distraction even sat nav, we managed before with out it. I would go as far as ban hands free, if speaking to some one you are not 100% concentrating on the road ahead.

In Scotland you have a bag for waste food, no idea if that means leftovers.

putting the bin out once was an easy weekly process. now its become a nightmare that will become harder and harder. even now you have to be an expert on the types of plastics about as some are put in one bin and others in another in my area. if councils brought in waste food re cycling you would end up separating meat from veg and that from fruit so god help you if you make a corned beef hash and waste it.

Our bins, 3 & a bag are supposed to be at end of the drive no earlier than 7am on day of collection. Yet they regularly turn up any time between 6 & 7 - and make a bloody noise so early in the morning.

People with no drive are having to leave the bins on the pavement outside their home but told they mustn't block the pavement which of course they do.

Some of these paid admin employees of the council must have shit for brains?

its carnage round my way when the wind blows and half of them spread their contents all over the road. whoever designed these bins in the first place cannot have had much of a clue about what wind can do with them. the bin men might if you are lucky pick a few large items up but most of it is left to blow around the place. next thing a clip board hero will search this rubbish and do us for fly tipping.
