Pools always used to win awards for the standard of the pitch, yesterday it looked like a potato’s field shortly after tatie picking week. Is it entirely down to a lack of funds for the groundsman or is there other factors at play?

It was reseeded at the start of the season as in general it always has been, still Dave Brown looking after it, we are only into the growing season for grass again so might improve or is it down to the weather ?

My lawn’s buggered, too much rain this winter, but it’ll recover.

Maybe we want it that way as an added advantage, sometimes you shoot yourselves in the foot with a carpet for other good footballing teams to play on.

Eddie Kyle mentioned how bad the pitch has detiriated. Even mentioned you only get what you pay for.
So its down to funds.

Nonsense being spouted on this thread.

The pitch was totally dug up and replaced, cost over £100K - the first time in 8 years (since IOR did it). How do I know? I asked Raj and the group Finance Director at the fans forum.

However the quality of the pitch is very poor, which doesn't make sense.

I am not sure why, perhaps Dave Brown doesn't have the correct time or equipment to maintain?

So although alot of money was spent, was it spent in the wrong way?

usually this improves the pitch but not at the vic. its been worse this season than for as long as i can remember. you can see the players footmarks before the game but does not cut up. wonder if some of the equipment has been sold to finance our pre season purchase of stars.

And I wonder if the moon is made of green cheese. How bad is the new pitch supposed to be? We had a very wet March but it isn't a mud bath. Haven't noticed many bobbles or bad bounces either. Swindon played some good football on it first half as did Pools in the second half against Orient last week

my Neighbour is lets say .. quite the gardener and was once a grounds keeper on some large estate in Scotland back in the day (or so he tells me)... but we did speak about the weather etc as you do and he did mention that the prolonged frost and cold mornings we have had has played havoc on getting his lawn perfect for the summer.. wonder if Pools hallowed turf is suffering because of this too. Cant always blame your tools sometimes it literally is the weather (and do we put frost covers down ?).

Would love to know the reason because the pitch is poor in certain areas.

Some of the bobbles on the ball have been visible from the other end of the ground.

Going back a few years when pitches some times barely had a blade of grass, it never stopped decent football being played and the players didn’t have slipper type boots either like they have now, a decent footballer should be capable of playing on any surface.

players have always had their favourite type of surface but never slipped over as much as they do now. its not as if they hadn,t been able to check the surface after the time they spend on it pre match.
