I think if drive round Hartlepool there will be plenty of plebs breaking the speed limit, where I live, Merlin Way it’s like a race track with all the twists and turns. The plebs will be first ones to complain about getting a speeding ticket.

And…? Doesn’t excuse his behaviour because others do it, he’s the one always preaching from the woke song sheet, they aren’t.

Even if the motorway was operating as normal he’d still have been over the limit…. If you’re gonna preach you have to set an example.

can understand his flustration at that if there was no work being carried out and it was very quiet but like i have said he should be setting an example and not being made an example of. got a feeling this will not be mentioned much on messageboards and the news of the left leaning variaty.

well if thats not a good enough reason for him starting a go fund me page to pay his fine then nothing else is. if he had been late for a pools game then that would have been a good excuse. at least he,d be in good company then like i was that day we hammered morecambe at their place. the game was worth the fine.

Quite right about doing 78 on a motorway, although that seems to be under the normal for many drivers!

He says he left the motorway at a junction but then changed his mind and rejoined the motorway. In between leaving and joining the 40mpoh speed limit signs were located and he did not see them. Sounds both plausible and a bit of a porky, which one do you believe?

needs a public enquiry to see if he is guilty of misleading the police to his innocence.

If it had been a top flight footballer there would have been a top QC defending him making up all sorts of excuses why he was speeding and pleading he was skint.

Aren't the variable speed limit signs on the M62 above the carriageway and about 100 foot tall (they are on the M60 round Manchester). Not sure how you could miss them but surely the panic of having to go into Liverpool as Mayor of Manchester must be very worrying and explain his panic and speed.

£2k total which included costs, I don’t know what the costs are for as he pleaded guilty, fines are as already been said based on earnings although he could have taken a speed awareness course and reduced it I believe ?

Wow, never knew that. So being caught doing 41mph in a 30mph limit could get you a fine of 100% of your weekly income after tax and National Insurance deductions are applied (up to £1,000 on a non-motorway).

That’s why I am surprised he didn’t opt for the Speed Awareness Course which can be done online although I believe you to be offered the option.

You can be unaware what speed you are travelling at, I got done going to Humberside Airport on an early Bank Holiday Monday morning not another car on the road talking to the passenger going down a slight incline. I glanced at the speedo over a ton, next thing flashing lights in the distance, Police, they clocked me at 97 mph.The fine was relatively small plus 3 points, I think it was around 1994.

I got "caught" by one of those roadside vans, once in Lichfield and about 2 years later in Rugeley (both Staffordshire)

The 1st doing 36 in a 30 and the 2nd doing 34 in a 30 and within 40 yards of a 40 mph speed area.

The 1st had a completely non existent address on the summons which after a bit of correspondence I heard nothing more.

The 2nd I wrote asking for various things like whether the machine had been calibrated that morning, was the operator fully trained etc etc. and again heard nothing further.

I think they rely on people just pleading guilty and when anyone wants to challenge them they give up quite easily.

To go to my local paper shop I have to pass 4 static speed cameras in less than 2 miles - I never know if they are all working but nonetheless it's a joke.

If I wasn't so old I'll run each way to fetch my Financial Times (I joke)

do not think you get the option on doing that if you go that far over the speed limit. know if you do over 40 in a 30 its fine and points. under 40 you get the speed awareness option but not for the second time if you are caught within a certain period of time after the 1st offence. its 1 or 2 years.

Is it not possible to have it delivered.
Personally I wouldn't cross the road to buy a newspaper.

.

He wouldn’t qualify for a speed awareness course…. The eligibility as I recall for someone in a 40 mph limit has an upper limit of 53mph …exceed that and you’re going to Court.
