The BBC comparing it to the 1966 win, that was the World Cup not a burds trophy with only a few teams, wait for all the euphoria if they win. Hours and hours of radio and to coverage, open bus parades etc !

Yup, I heard that on the news this morning, but they seemed to morph it into one England team, but they aren’t, they’re two separate teams.

I'm avoiding the BBC Sports website for the rest of the week. They'll still be winking themselves silly because they could afford to pay for the TV rights.

I wonder if won’t of the lesser nations of the U.K. had won there would be as much euphoria by the BBC, they some times forget it’s the British Broadcasting Corporation ?

Some gormless pundits saying it was Englands first major tournament win since 1966, nonsense, they are not one team, they are two separate bodies, it’s the ‘wimmins’ first major win.

Great for the Tories it hides all the bad news, we need a major incident/occuence to detract the headlines obviously not fatalities. I have been watching Al Jareeza news, the footy is well down their list of headlines.
Englands major win since 1966, did England not win the Rugby World Cup and the Cricket one as well after 1966 ?

...looking on the bright side...at least the lionessses triumph will mean the bbc diversity dept will have a new focus for a while..probably quite a while i expect.. and maybe we will get a little less of this stuff to digest...so when do we ditch the licence fee..?

there will be bound to be bbc documentaries on how the cup was won with in depth reports on the families of the lasses with a special cristmas day bonanza programme to bore us shitless. it was a good performance and a good advery for the womens game in this country. we all know many girls will take up the sport for a few weeks anyway till the novalty wears off. if they toned down the post match hype somewhat i think many would be less critical of the bbc and womens football itself.

We won't be allowed to call it a shirt for much longer, it will become a "TOP". BBC's Sally Nugent already this morning throwing "more diversity" into the reaction.

However just to emphasise my youthful looks.......WELL DONE LADIES.

The krauts are claiming foul play, saying they were robbed. That Miss Oberdorf makes Tommy Smith, Norman Hunter and Chopper Harris look like a bunch of Cinderella's.
Just for the Yoof on here, Smith, Hunter and Harris were proper tacklers.

Go bra-less Mr Sussex, that body armour you bought on the Internet advertised as a bra from ‘Randy Bollocks Nightwear’ must have cost you a fortune.

Was there any need for Chloe Kelly to whip her shirt after scoring?Call me old fashioned but i remember the days when ladies used to curtsy.I'm complaining to the FA anyway.

She took her shirt off to celebrate scoring because that is what men do. The women's game is an imitation of the men's. Yesterday, both sides were "buying" free kicks, feigning injury, moaning at the ref etc just like the men. I know that some folks like to claim the women are superior because you don't get that kind of thing but if yesterday's game was anything to go by then actually women behave exactly the same as the men.

It was a final played in front of nearly 90,000 people. Gender has nowt to do with the way the two teams scrapped it out - both teams were determined to win. If it had been a case of 'After you Gertrude' we'd all be laughing and saying that's not real football.

What was massively different was the crowd. Wembley was full of families with kids and not the coked up idiots who made a spectacle of themselves at the men's final last year.

Of course the hype is way OTT but the Beeb could be their own worst enemies - when the franchises come around again they'll probably not be able to afford the women's footie either

They’ll get the contract for the under 5’s Premiership Kindergarten League.
No night matches though because they’ll be tucked in bed.
But only if the BBC fail to get the Monkey Tennis concession.

I have seen that womens football was effectively banned from 1921 to 1972.
What an absolute disgrace.

I was making no comment on the crowd or owt else but the behaviour of the players and the fact is the women behaved the same as the men. I don't think this is controversial is it? It is not an attack on anyone but the PC virtue signallers who insist the women players are paragons of virtue when they are not: they do what needs to be done to win, just like the men. Hope this helps.

I thought they were fantastic. They played their hearts out against very tough opposition and their post match interviews were refreshing, totally lacking in any PR speak or media training. We’ll done ladies.

Utter stupidity in a match no matter how long is left when it's an automatic yellow. The English team deserved to win but there was some cynical stuff going on albeit it not quite as bad as the men's game and the money is now starting to creep in so fill in the blanks.

If there’s a market for it, as opposed to Wimbledon wonder week (where they all lose interest), the money will follow. Then see what happens when the ‘suits’ rearrange their world…..as they inevitably will.

One of the England squad when questioned about the success for the Womens game replied that that there is no womens football, just football. If that’s the case why is there a women’s team then…?

Starmer can’t see a populist bandwagon coming without throwing himself on the bonnet with gusto, trouble is he usually ends up under the front wheels.

Hope this helps.

to be fair to them the games up to the semi,s were played in a good spirit far better than the mens. unfortunetly it will only be the final that will be remembered. what will be the legacy of the win. got a feeling the dark arts of the game will seep into womens football at the top and eventually dribble down to the grass roots game in the same way its happened to the mens game. they call it the beautiful game, sometimes its far from that now cash is king.

Enjoy it while we can because thats the best its going to get. The money will start to flow, the game will change and it will end up on Sky or BT and disappear from sight.

actually there are many that cannot wait for that to happen along with tennis and the commonwealth games. not everyone enjoys sport by a long way preferring to watch anything but. apart from football, rugby league and a bit of cricket you could keep the rest for me also. the 8th repeat of murder she wrote looks a better bet than watching the london marathon for a start.

The big selling point this morning on the news was team members encouraging women to start attending their league matches. sctatchinghead
My wife thought the result was brilliant, but when asked would she go and watch it on a regular basis she said the classic…….. ”Well, ……. er, no”.
There’s a way to go yet

The normal female reply is. I've got better things to do with my time than that.
