I’m waiting for the adverts on the telly featuring Sussex in a ‘Drought’ appeal for bottled water, because everyday before organising his over 80’s pole dancing team he has to trek 24 feet into the kitchen to turn on the tap and fill a glass.
Think of Sussex at this time….on second thoughts…….nah.

I have worked and had holidays in hot and arid countries one being Malta but there was never a shortage of water. We have a couple of weeks of hot weather and there is a hospipe ban and then it rains, there is flooding, snow and the country shuts down ?

There has been discussions on the various radio stations today about the amount of leaks and raw sewage which is pumped into the rivers. Company Executives are being paid bonuses, wtf for, they are not achieving nought. It was suggested the water companies should be fined but at the end of the day the public would be paying the fines indirectly through their bills.

The only people who can stop these bonuses being paid are the shareholders but they are delighted by the bumper profits being generated by the excessive price of water and low operating costs by not maintaining the water system properly.
The bonuses paid and the fines made are tiny in relation to the profits made.
Surely this is not in the nations interests.

Just had email from Shell Energy increasing my D.D. on 2 September from £72 per month to £123 per month. This just for electricity and I'm in credit for just over £90.

They must know the increase that is to be published on 28th of this month and yes bigger bonus payments to those at the top.

And my cooking and central heating is driven by Gas.

Are we like for like?

Mine 4 bedroom with wife & I and still have youngest son (33) at home with his wife.

As said use Gas for cooking and central heating when needed, although gas does warm up the hot water.

My wife does a fair bit of washing, mainly for son & his wife (why I do not know) and if weather not good will use the clothes dryer.

3 bedroom semi, gas central heating and cooking, just like you with one still here, but that’s all. The gas went up from £52 to £127…..
A couple of years ago I changed every bulb in the house to energy saving bulbs, about 25 all told, but it didn’t make a penny difference to my bills.

My gas with EDF and at moment pay £60 per month and have credit of £190 but no doubt it will rise substantially but I pity you with that massive increase in your electricity.

I think there are going to be millions in poverty during the coming months, so glad I've got a couple of decent private pensions that boost my state pension.

I have the slack to pay it, for now, but I pity anyone such as a single pensioner who’ll be swept away with these rises. rakxe
I’ve got three pensions and cursed paying them at the time……I’m glad I did now.

It’s up to the individual how much your DD is, the energy companies scaremonger you, every DD is money in the bank for them. Unfortunately going on to pay when you receive the bill means you don’t get the same deal, it’s more expensive.

its a case of the population in this country growing between 15 and 20 per cent and no extra provisions made for this.

We are surrounded by water and there is a process of desalination to convert sea water to drinking water.

Why don't the water people use it?

It’s a very expensive system to run, high pressure pumps and filters, it uses lots of electricity which we don’t have much of.
What need to do is try and capture all the rainfall we have in the winter.

Be cheaper to build more reservoirs.

Just received an email from Anglian Water, bills are going up 10.7%, another privatised company owned by companies in Australia, Canada and Luxembourg, 1 U.K. company has a small stake, in 2021 they paid dividends of over £90 million.
