I see a protest involving players wearing yellow laces is happening this weekend.
The profits these firms rake in must be eye watering given the betting shirt sponsors we have. I would like to think its the start of something having known a few people who have been badly affected by this which when it gets out of control is no better than a class A drug.
It disappoints me that Jeff Stelling is so involved in Sky Bet.

1/20 nothing will change.

Just like alcohol, drugs or cigarettes, if you can’t control your habit then it’s a you problem not a them problem. In a similar vein to alcoholics, why punish the masses due to a minority who abuse it, the world is being made up of excusers…

Like all addictions someone is making a fat profit from it. Is this any different to drugs or alcohol….?
The spread of online gambling on all mediums has increased dramatically. I must admit when it was allowed online I was really surprised, it just widens their net to trawl with ….Kerching!

With the advent of smart phones online gambling is endemic, I was working with a load of lads 25 years old plus a few years back who were addicted to betting on the footy and not just a few pounds either. The amount of money they were losing was criminal, like alcohol gambling is a disease, they always used to say you never see a poor bookie. It’s always in general the less well of who gamble and do the lottery hoping for that big win will enhance their lives. I have worked in a couple of countries, when the lottery was rolling over some were going with out food to buy tickets.

its the unseen disease as you can spot the other adicts if you look out for them. its not so .much of its easy access its actually being pushed by advertising. they have banned tobacco adverts so why not gambling ones. even soft gambling like bingo is constantly thrown at your face. are you going to bingo does not mean popping down to mecca tonight it means the easy on line thing. people are drawn in my free bets and its sods law they,ll win and go down the slippery slope. then every town centre is full of bookies even small towns. like everything it should not be banned but making it that bit harder to bet may be the answer. everyone is lazy to a certain extent and that may put em off.

It’s the celebs on the adverts that I don’t like. People like Robbie Savage making out that football gambling is a laugh with the lads. He and others have enough already, they so shallow.

The thing with online gambling is the opportunity is always within reach of you from your phone or laptop 24/7. For anyone addicted, it’s so easy to access, it’s criminal.

I think its the on-line gambling thats really made it a major problem.
Looking at the betting shops they all look empty now especially after Covid pushed everyone online.
The high street is going to look increasingly empty.
