Hmmm. Interesting development. Ian McGuckin's involvement in the new set up is confirmed, but what about Tony Sweeney? I thought he was going to be Academy Manager? Is he a victim of the current shake-up, too identified with the failures of the old regime over the past 2 months? Or is he now a candidate for the the 1st Team Manager's job? Or is it something else entirely?

Answers on a postcard please.

It was announced about a month ago that it would be part of his duties next season, along with some continued involvement with 1st team coaching.

That was then, apparently.

possibly sweeney is on a crash course to be physio for next season.

Nah, the groundsmen’s on that course at the University of Blackhall.

I think my age is catching up on me I’m totally confused with the running of this academy why don’t the just say the youth team.
McGukin - Lead Professional Development Phase coach. Then we advertise for an Acadamy Manager one of is responsibilities is guiding the development of the clubs playing philosophy, coaching philosophy and coaching curriculum for the academy.
Can someone explain to this geriatric supporter the difference in these roles. Total gobblygook to me.

I’d assume Academy Manager & Youth Team Manager/Head Coach are two different roles. With Sweeney lined up to be the latter.
