My missus has got the tele on & there's a woman showing how to sew a button on a shirt.
Is this what passes for entertainment these days ?
Beggars belief !!

I am totally amazed nowadays how many men cannot do simple tasks such as changing a fuse in a plug and God forbid actually fit a new one.
People now discard totally good kit like lawn mowers etc for daft faults and order a new one. For example I once found three Henry cleaners lined up outside a certain establishment because they didn’t work. I asked if I could take them and was told feel free. I guessed I probably could build one out of the three.
Two had blocked pipes, easily cleared with a brush shank up the flex’s pipe, the third had a loose connection on neutral in the plug.
I’ve still got the three of them now.

The amazement is extended to the number of young housewives who can't or won't cook. I am blessed with the fact that me Mam, Granny, Wife and Daughter were/ are all excellent cooks and bakers and I can turn me hand as well. I do the Sunday dinner every week and on Christmas Day, plus the BBQ's.
It's just laziness half the time.
I was in the house of a couple in their late twenties and I commended the lady of the house as to how clean and sparkling her cooker was. She replied by saying it had never been used.
These people spend a bloody fortune on take aways.
Ridiculous.

Its horrific the numbers of people who live on takeaways then say they are broke.
Health crisis caused by this crap is getting worse and i find if i have one most are at best very mediocre.

Those delivery service ads for fast food junk like MacDonalds sum it up. All the fat knackers have to do now is roll off the sofa and get to the front door. Zero exercise for their calories - brilliant! Waste of time chucking money at healthy eating campaigns.

One time we had crop rotation, now it’s take away rotation…. Diabetes by 40 if the heart doesn’t explode first.

The other modern fad is to have the most fantastic kitchen but never actually use it. All for show in this strange modern utopia

The other is having a garage and not putting your car in it (presume it is full of crap)

There are 100 properties in my cul de sac, all with garages (some buggers with 2) and other than myself I could count on 1 hand how many others there are who park their car there.

Ah, garages… a neighbour of ours had one built and insisted on designing it himself.
The builder told him his dimensions were wrong and the neighbour took exception and insisted it was built to his spec….. the builder gave up and did exactly as ordered and got his cheque.
When the neighbour tried to drive his car in, the door was tight but acceptable but once inside the cars doors could not be opened wide enough to get out of the vehicle.
This was 1980 and he shelved the garage out and after that day that stated was only ever for storage space….. till someone asked why he tried to drive his car in then?

garages not for cars. fancy kitchens not for cooking and takeaways one of the fastest growing sectors of the food industry. once upon a time getting a takeaway was regarded by most of something for a change. you actually if you were unlucky and did not have one round the corner you picked it up yourself. now many cannot be bothered just to do that. food delivered, shopping delivered what next. petrol stations going around to fill up peoples tanks at home. we are becoming a nation of lazy buggers with excuses of doing nothing always outweighs trying to do something themselves.

Agree 100%. What I dont get is how they can afford takeaways every day. Must cost a bloomin fortune. Half the beggars live off benefits so.... dunno, beyond my comprehension.

Hope said Henry's, are painted ,Red, White and Blue, for demonstration purposes.. and to insure proper rotation for duties to follow...as per part 2 orders.

I painted my wheely bin in Pools colours a week before the match and all the way back from from Cardiff all got in my ears was …”what are you going to do about the bin?”….. my reply was “bugger all” ….it’s still got some paint left on after 17 years of getting hammered by the bin wagon.

What happened to shopping and deciding what to have for dinner at the same time? Was in Morrisons at lunchtime to do the weekly shop and carrots, parsnips and turnips are all 19p. Wasn't planning on doing veg with meals this weekend but with those prices I will be now.

Don’t I know, she was stocking up on them in there yesterday, an evil glint in her eye with her turbo- soup maker taxiing out of the cupboard. She freezes it. bbolt

Absolutely love home made soup, especially with a chunk of home made bread. Cheap as chips to feed a family on that.
Years ago women knew how to shop, where to shop and how to cook what they bought into a delicious nutritional meal.
Me dad would say, yer Mam gets half a crown's worth for two bob.
Rationing during the war honed their skills as sharp as a razor blade.

Remember Mum sending me up to the Bakers about 4.30ish after I had come home from school to buy 8 cakes for a shilling (5p now) - there was 6 of us in the family and it was the late 50's.

What can you get for 5p now?

apart4 blah, blah ,blah. from soup don,t forget the stews. lasted for days on end and actually tasted better as the days rolled on. with all these cookery programmes on the box, surely they could make one on simple cheap food to make with tips on how and where you can source stuff to use cheaply. there are still allotments around my area, but those having them are not allowed to sell stuff like the old days. bloody councils again. rule 63 paragraph4 b;ah, blah.

If you’ve got a surplus of produce, what are you supposed to do with, ffs it’s only pocket money anyway they make on it.
And yes Mr A, home made soup does taste better after a few days, the wife puts a batch in cartons in the fridge and the last one’s used are the best every time. clappp

Closing the allotment route was daft in my book, the gardeners use to say it contributed towards their cost. Things like seed, heating the greenhouse etc.
You used to get a bagful for two bob and nothing was fresher either.
I was going to mention the stew pot but didn't want to hog the thread.

Did 'Junior Choice' and 'Crackerjack' for years. BBC Radio 1 DJ and Children's Entertainment personality of the same era as Savile and Harris, but never accused of being a kiddy fiddler.

On the other hand, he met his future wife when he was 34 and she was 13. But he waited till she was 17 to tie the knot

what we do to get one on the local council is give an allotment bloke we know an empty carrier bag{a disposable one obviously] with money at the bottom till he can fill it up with enough to keep us going for the week. the clipboard crew have not worked this out yet.

The best house design in history was the big gardens in council houses built post war. Take a look around the likes of Raby Gardens or Shakespeare Avenue or god forbid, risk driving around Muir Crescent. All have massive back gardens because the were built when rationing was still in place for near ten years after the end of WW2 and growing your own veg was standard practice. A corner plot in one of those is like having your own farm!

You’re right there, my grans garden was 120 feet long, you could have built another house in that space today. Funnily enough it was built in 1948 and all had garden on two levels, turns out it was the site of a chicken farm and a stick of German bombs hit it creating a new topographical feature…. sadly the two houses at the end of the drop zone took a direct hit and wiped out both families.

for many nowadays including me a large garden is a downside to a property and are avoided like the plague.
