Did the fact that he always plays with his socks, not sure how his shin pads are secured half way down his calf’s contribute to his injury ?

pretty sure a similar issue has come up at pools before ....with another player a while back...cant remember the details ...but seem to recall the player was bollocked as unprofessional by the manager at the time...... for forgetting to wear....not wearing them properly...or deliberately not wearing shin pads... and then sustaining a serious injury... which meant he was out of action for a while....luke james ??

The shin pads worn by players these days only seem to cover a small part of the shin anyway. When I was playing everybody used to wear the long pads with an attached ankle protector as well. So, I’m not surprised they get so many leg and ankle injuries.

In this instance pads would have made no difference as the Mansfield player’s ‘tackle’ slid along the ground with some force to hit the inside of his foot.

Back in the day when I did a refs course we were told that as long as the player had some form of extra protection on the shin then that was suitable, even if it was a bit of card!

In his post-match interview Spike said Molyneux had a gashed shin.

Saw their defenders boot go along the ground and catch his ankle that flicked him up. .... unless me mind’s going ........ and post match Spike did say they’d done a weight bearing test on the leg. He must have a gashed shin but I know what I saw.

do not know when that was, but for years now its been compulsory, or in post 2021 speech mandatory, for players to wear them. however it does not say what size they have to be allowing those who do not like em to wear the smallest and flimsyest available.

Given how valuable players are as assets to clubs I’m surprised they let players play with inadequate protection, which is what those tiny shin pads are?

thats fine, but most injuries nowadays seem to be non contact ones where they pull or strain something us mere mortals do not posess.

I bust my wrist playing 5 a side. Nowt really, but I'd got a new car only a few days before it happened. Our lass had to drive it and she'd not long passed her test. She used to grind the gears something terrible, and I didn't have the forbearance not to comment. She was happier than I was when the pot came off

I ended up with a proper plaster cast on from hip to toe for 16 weeks, weighed a ton and certain functions became a real challenge.

If either has ambition they will go to a bigger club who naturally will be able to offer more than Pools. Just hope they don’t leave for a club in our league. Odusini may be lured back down south

About 25 years ago. The rule was they needed some sort of protection on the shins but as long as it was rigid there was no specification as to what it should be. The official doing the course even said it could be some rolled up newspaper. Daft really!

He’d have needed teeth pads, they were all knocked out.
