Anyone following the BBC hype for this and watching as much as they can. Or like me who have not watched a single second.

Not bothered watching any of it either.

As for the BBC hyping it to death - that's what they do these days. There were only 3,000 paying fans in the other week for the table-topping London derby between Chelsea and Arsenal - in the Women's Super League. So BBC Sport says it was the best 0-0 draw in the history of football and should have been played at Stamford Bridge in front of 30,000 stpid

The Winter Olympics is up there with Walrus wrestling and Free style Crocodile castration, that said, the Walrus wrestling shades it.
The BBC has that few sports to cover it gets hyper over the most banal of sporting events.
Thr reporting of women’s football on a par with the men’s game is frankly highlighted by background pictures of the crowds they draw in......that is the judge.

I was watching it the other day in the early morning, and had a random thought that I keep pondering on.

We all know of many famous sports people right? Lewis Hamilton. Andy Murray. David Beckham. Ian Botham. Ricky Hatton. Jessica Ennis. Needless to say all those people will have had a huge part in inspiring children to take up specific sports over the years.

But what sort of kid is going to turn round and say "mammy, when I'm older i wanna be a downhill slalom champion".

It makes you wonder how people even discover and train at these sports. Wheres the local ski jump in county Durham?

I was watching water polo last year when the Olympics were on and was genuinely curious what kind of people played it. Nearly all people with connections to Ivy League universities in the US. So its basically just a rich people's cult. Here's hoping the UK can call up Lord Snooty from the Beanotown Bombers Water Polo club.

I played water polo in Durham when I was younger and represented England at U-18. Definitely wasn't Ivy League in Durham, in fact a lot of our team came from Bishop Auckland. It was just part of the swimming club and the next step for quite a few of us after competitive racing. Back in the 80s there were National League teams in both Durham and Middlesbrough and I think there is still a team at Newton Aycliffe.

Anyone who's used a yard brush must fancy their chances winning with the curling gold.

Anyone with laminated flooring and a dog in the winter must have a good chance as well.

If it was meant for the likes of us, there’d be a massive school yard style dodgy slide, snowman competitions, puddle ice breaking bouts, snowball fights and sliding down the Burn Valley bank on tin trays to certain death or injury. That’s Winter Sports.

it was big in yorkshire as well. every town that had a swimming baths had a water polo team and got some decent support. now many of these baths have been closed and knocked down.

And today we see a very special Olympics closing ceremony which builds to a finale not involving the usual sort of fireworks - to the East of Beijing we'll see the People's Army of China retaking Taiwan, and to the West we'll see Putin's Army of the Rebuilding Soviet Union retaking Ukraine as a prelude for Latvia and Lithuania.

The thing with the Winter Olympics is unlike say Wimbledon, were God knows why, everyone wants to be on a tennis court...for a fortnight, no one wants to rush out and try curling, bobsleigh or downhill skiing...
Wonder why ?
