They’re sold on the BBC Local tv as North East team, yet purely by chance covering the broadcasting area of various TV stations I noticed obviously that Harrogate appears to be in the Yorkshire area for reception, but as it’s only 13 miles from the BBC in Leeds it would be. Seeing as Newcastle is 55 miles away do they actually see the goals and coverage or are they in a fluke reception area....?

Location: Rocks or Colliery?
Always seemed when I stayed in York the TV's were tuned into the Tyne Tees news stations, I always thought this strange, unless it was the case that the greater majority of people who visit and stay in York are from our area?

Living in the area I can confirm that for terrestrial TV we have the choice of either BBC Leeds or Newcastle. It's up to us punters, some people have two ariels and receive both. I think it has something to do with the nearness of the Bilsdale transmitter, that is when it's working. Harrogate's only about 25 miles as the crow flies from Bilsdale.

It could be the geographic circumstances of the area affecting reception then, a bit like getting Icelandic TV on the Headaland, and you get the Pools reports tagged onto the Icendic league results.

When I first came down to South Yorkshire I got an aerial pointing to the NE transmitter to keep in touch with all things NE.

there are bound to be some grey areas regarding coverage. chesterfield is regarded as yorkshire area where mansfield in midlands with basically only a motorway and a few miles difference. its a case of where fans interest really lies. same with barrow in cumbria and morecambe across the bay in lancashire. as for harrogate i think the vast majority living there who are interested in football look towards the west yorkshire sides rather than the north east ones.

This has baffled me, most supporters of football in Harrogate will have their loyalty elsewhere in the area and while you may get some watching the occasional match, they’ll never be able to produce viable gates to fund the club, and be forever dependent on the owner’s largesse.

possibly there will be a number of clubs they support if they live in the harrogate area due to never having a league club till recently. imagine the majority will go to leeds with a few to bradford city. unless you live miles and miles away you do not change clubs at the drop of a hat, thats left for the armchair brigade and glory hunters.

I watched a game at Pickering Town once and lots of people wore Scarborough hats and Scarborough results were announced on the PA.

No idea if Harrogate was the same, probably more Leeds. I have family in Bradford and Leeds is probably the most popular team there, along with Man U.
