Being touted by a journalist on The Independent:

https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/extr ... TO=newsnow

It's a well reasoned article that I agree with on the whole. The one really big thing he misses is the hopeless standard of most of the clubs in the lower half of the NL! Pools have found out this season that every game in League 2 is competitive, while only some are in the NL. He could have gone further and proposed that the NL become League 3, but personally I'd only support that if there was an extra criterion that all qualifying clubs had to have full-time professional playing staffs.

Still, I'd like to see 3 up, 3 down out of enlightened self-interest at least. One day (hopefully far into the future) Pools might drop down there again.

Irrespective of any league changes, we simply must always preserve our football league status and NEVER return into that HOLE of a league.

I think it’s a cracking idea, two promoted automatically and one through the playoffs.

Presumably if adopted it would mean three down from league two. If it goes to a vote, I can't see league two clubs voting for it.
Personally I think it is a good idea and a step in the right direction.

Makes sense but I doubt it will happen unless it's incorporated into the EFL. League 3.

Terrible idea IMO. It just gives a greater opportunity for clubs with little support to get to the football league as someone’s hobby.

The Dog & Duck in the EFL thanks to some wacko Billionaire who thinks it be funny to get his local into the big leagues.

No Thanks !

Although i dont mind the idea of another automatic promotion spot in that league

I'm going to be completely hypocritical and selfish here. But now we're back in the EFL, no. Of course last year i'd of said yes.

To remove my Pools goggles though. I can't say I'd be interested in seeing too many NL clubs coming into the EFL. Sure Chesterfield, Notts and Stockport would be cool. But would anyone want to see Fleetwood v Solihull? Bromley v Harrogate? Eastleigh v Burton?

Not to mention as bigger clubs come up the more problems we have. As medium says. Like giving someone a gun to shoot us with.

Be interesting to learn who Mr Storey supports. If it's going to happen, then surely the NFL becomes League 3 so that the inept NFL hierarchy have nothing to do with it

They might subsidise your coach travel....£12.50 to the USA and 126 refreshment stops could be a challenge.

and fans of all ex league clubs think the same way. for every stockport and chesterfield you get a boreham wood and solihull where the former are lucky to get a 4 figure gate even when doing well. for every lincoln who got back where they should be there are a salford and a harrogate that have now stuck in a rut where fans are concerned. only wealthy owners stop these clubs going back into oblivion.

The hobby owners are a fecking nuisance....I can understand them buying an established team to invest in, but this insane egotistic urge some have to try and create a league club out of nothing in the back of beyond is nonsense, they’re doing it to promote their own brilliance at succeeding, the sort of narcissistic people who have love bites on their bathroom mirrors.

Trouble is, they’re so clever they fail to notice the problem of a fan base conjured up from back woods areas where football’s concerned. Most fans in football starved areas will have attached themselves to another local team with a track record. You end up attracting the novelty fans and there ain’t an abundance of them about.

National League should be incorporated into EFL but not as League 3. They should form Leagues 2 North and South. Win, win for all teams.

a minimum fan base and a minimum ground size would take care of that if they want promotion. its like pools ending up in the championship with full hoses every week. totally unsustainable as bury found out in the late 90,s and look at them now. these owners seemquite prepared to bankroll teams on the pitch but only do minimal ground or size improvements.

Scunthope, Chesterfield and Yeovil as well. Two of those clubs even got to the championship as well.

All that glitters is not gold.

True enough, but even in the National League the hobby clubs are heavily outnumbered by proper clubs with a Football League pedigree, not to mention the likes of Darlo and York a level below.

With the best will in the world, the crystal ball that guarantees Pools will NEVER drop back into the NL doesn't exist. If ever relegation back to Hell does happen, I'd like to think there'd be more than a measly 1 automatic promotion place available to get back up.

Not to mention Grimsby and Southend.

12 out of the 23 National League sides are ex-EFL. Even Barnet and Dagenham & Redbridge had 9-10 seasons as league clubs, including short spells in League One.

Split the EFL division/league into L2(north) and L2(south) making up numbers from the National League. No more 500+ mile round trips!

would take that. in fact taking out away fans from the equasion i imagine there would be more home fans at the vic next saturday if we were playing chesterfield rather than stevenage. can remember the old 3rd division north and south days. the novelty of playing new teams in the new 3rd and 4th divisions lost its interest after a couple of seasons seeing them. at least regionalisation will save clibs money on travelling and overnight stays.

Hang about London is only 250 mile away, that’s a 500 mile round trip.

all three have at some period of their history. add grimsby, stockport and notts county to the list also. go down further with york, bradford park avenue and herford also playing there. funny how none of them had success once relagated from the second tier and wonder how much was wasted in attempts to stay at that level. ask bury and oldham.
