I saw a presentation for a new ground for Aberdeen and was surprised to see a new build adjacent to a dual carriageway out in the sticks with nothing surrounding it. Is it me, or is this desire to bang up a new ground by certain clubs a retrograde step.
Town centre grounds have numerous amenities around then I.e pubs, food etc and easy access by public transport, and for some within comfortable walking distance.
These out of town grounds guarantee a monopoly on the drinks and grub side but access without a car could be problematic.
From being a part of town life they move out and become football warehouses with all the soul of a factory outlet, removing another feature of town centre life to the edge of town retail park way of life.

Pittodrie isn't really the centre of the city, moreso based in a residential area which now seems to have became mainly university accommodation.

I don't see the point of them building a new ground though, especially when Pittodrie is rarely filled. Sadly out of town grounds have became the norm in Scotland. Grounds like Dumbarton and Clyde immediately spring to mind.

With all this talk about regenerating town centres up and down the country, it's a wonder a council have never pursued getting a football ground built in a town centre. If anything they seem to enjoy pushing them away!

When I say town centre grounds I’m not referring to the high street, but having access to local facilities like pubs, shops, public transport and walking to the ground.

plus they bring money into the town that would not happen if they were built outside the town. even 50 away fans buying a couple of pints and a bag of chips is monry lost to the businesses of towns if they move miles out. be interesting to find out the extra revenue gained from the headland, town centra and down to seaton on a match day against a non match saturday.
