..... a keeper on the horizon? I’d like new back door to replace the one with the dodgy lock we have at present. Am I being unreasonable.....?

Maybe the new centre half is a back up, at least he will catch a few crosses.

The simple fact is that most Poolies seem nervous when our last line of defence is under threat and I can't help thinking that the players must have similar anxieties.
It looks like Mitchell might be going so a replacement surely must be the number one contender with Killip as back up, unless Killip can't accept that and looks to move on.

I reckon both Cook & Fela have something to offer. Yes, Cook looks injury prone & we can't afford another Luke Williams, but in the brief moments I've seen him, he looks useful.

you are not but who is available. a kid from some youth side could be a bigger gamble than what we have. we are not going to get a giant lad who commands his box. they do not exist anymore.

Id much prefer to see a GK come through the door now over a Striker (for our lack of Goals isnt actually true anymore).
Its all good and well banging in 2 or 3 a game but as we have proven this season it means sweet feck all if the opposition are matching it or putting more in at the other end (ala Mansfield away).

Surely there is some 3rd choice keeper sitting on a bench somewhere that is much better than what we have just now - Im thinking Championship / Scottish Prem. Wonder if Mr Strachan has been proded for any of his lads up North.

Lawlor - Loan
Smith - Loan if replacement can be found
Hendrie - Loan
Fondop - Contract Expires Jan 2022 ?
Cook - Contract Expires Jan 2022 ? (Good enough to stay on should he be fit id say)
Fela - Needs a season or 2 in the NL where he would get some game time. Would Gateshead wanna swap for Langstaff plus cash ?

In the cup game Pools had 4 players as well as Killip in the 6 yard area for Blackpool corners and the rest of the outfield on the edge of the penalty area trying to man mark Blackpool players. It looked really odd because Blackpool weren't trying to crowd the goal line like League 2 sides do and usually only had one of their players inside the 6 yard box.

So it's official - Killip needs 4 extra players to help him guard the goal even though he's nailed to the goal line himself. Think that says all we need to know about how much confidence Lee has in Pools' current No.1 keeper. I'd have money on us getting a new first choice keeper in before the end of the transfer window.

Considering we were on the verge of getting Carson I will be amazed if we don't get a keeper in.

A keeper and another outfielder before Saturday would be nice.

The Fact Spike came out and said we wanted Carson gives great confidence that he is working away in the background (& Turnbull we hope) on bringing in a new No.1.

The goal line clearance from Ferguson says it all really in the Blackpool game - and countless times he doesnt come out to collect loose balls which are yards away from him. But ill save that grumble if we dont sign anyone else to replace him come Feb.

seen him have nightmare games as well. there is no half measures with him but would have saved them in games more than killip has ever done. killip has had decent games but never looked or played like someone who on his day is unbeatable.

Yes this is true of many goalkeepers at this level - but i think this lad is starting to find his form. Sometimes GKs just take that one season where it clicks and they become class at their trade from there on in. Look at Ramsdale for Arsenal for example.

Id like to see us go for some powerhouse of this ilk. Another short ass inexperienced keeper isnt what we need right now.

The latest news, according to today's Fail, isn't encouraging. Mitchell still hasn't signed the contract he was offered and Pools don't seem to have a clear Plan B after not being able to get Trevor Carson in. Lee is quoted as saying,

“Ben is doing well at the moment. But there’s people [goalkeepers] in already training with us and we’re asking questions and getting videos and other things sent to us so we’ve got a few options.

“We’re just making sure again that it’s not a rushed decision. We want to make sure the right one comes in.”

I assume Spike is being diplomatic about Killip - he's the man in possession and we've only got a kid as back up.

Sounds like we have Trialist goalkeepers at Durham - this is good

but yeh the Fail are full of pesh.

Also if Fondop gets given a new contract - then i suggest our scouting team head to the wreck on a sunday Morning as there is lads there that could lace Fondops boots 10 times over jesus

I think it obvious Lee wants a goalkeeper but we already have two(not counting young lad). Well it’s not financially ok to have three so one must go. The easy way is to get rid of Mitchell as he is on short term contract so he is offered contract on much lower terms which he will not accept. Rumour has it South Shields have offered him more.
As far as Fondop is concerned surely it’s a no brainier, let him go.

Yep as was i - The fact he came from a League one side (whom he had scored for btw). His build and athleticism i thought would be perfect for us at this level. The fact he was tired and couldnt get a shot away by the time he got to the Blackpool goal says it all really about the player. Hope Lee seriously isnt considering keeping him with us for the rest of the season. If anything loan him out as a player plus cash swap for the lad at Gateshead (i wish).

don,t laugh folks but had a quick look at a stockport messageboard where fondop was named as a possible back up striker for them by somebody.

Shitload of squad out of contract in May/June.
Imagine we will be operating next season with a much smaller more quality squad.
