Have some sympathy with Dover's plight. According to Yate's comments the Lights had to be fixed by 8.30 thus allowing the Referee to give a further 30 minutes for the Teams to "warm up".
The game if started at 9pm would have finished at 10.45 and much later if extra time and penalties were needed. The return trip to Dover, albeit all Motorways, is near on 200 miles so a 2am arrival home.

I think what is happening now is that Refs are worried if a player hurts themselves on a muddy/rutted pitch they can be sued, so far easier to say the match is off and take their fee and expenses and bugger off home. No thought for supporters as is normal.

That's makes sense I suppose, Dover would definetly be the kind of team to sue someone over an injury on the pitch, even at their own ground!

try calling off a game in local football for a muddy and rutted pitch. some would play on ice or a flooded pitch if you let them. some refs turn up with the idea of pontponing the game for any reason just for expenses and half game fee. could write a book on some shithouse behavior of my ex collegues.
