It is reported that Newcastle United have offered Trippier £150K per week to sign for them in January. That works out at £7.5 million a year. I reckon that a club like Pools could survive ,comfortably, on a third of his wage. I enjoy my trips to see Pools play and obviously I want them to win .I couldn’t enjoy seeing 22 millionaires kicking a football about.

same for me. the game has gone from a possibility of a player living next door to you who owns a crap second hand car to this. can understand fans who are not turned on by watching multi millionairs turning their backs on the game and watching even their local non league side with lads having something in common with them. you lose the big ground atmosphere but thats all. you do not have to pay 18 quid for a burger and chips either.

Agree, the game further up the slippery slope of greed has killed it for me. Smaller clubs have suffered great deal over the years, and some are alas no more.

The football authorities in this country, are just as bad, the monies payed to lower leauges is a pittance, compared to them at the top.

All been said before sadly.

Eventually the game will eat itself.....
I really don’t care about the Premiership, an elitist club that’ll hopefully eventually die in it’s own self embracing arms.

It's an odd one really. Of course I'm like evryone on here. I hate the Premiershit and all it stands for.

However, what do we, as fans, want our club to achieve ultimately?

The immediate goal, for me, is to see us in the Championship.....but fast forward a million years by which time we'll be one of the Championships permanent fixtures....what do we want then? The next step up is to sleep with the enemy. How would we all feel then? Would we still be anti-cash and anti-Premiershit? I know I would but I'm sure we'd all kind of go with it.

I know a couple of geordies and they are loving the fact that they are now the richest football club in the world but deep down they know it's all obscene and wrong but they're choosing to put that to one side and enjoy the ride.

It's a moral dilemma that from an outsider looking in you can stay neutral and condemn it but when emotinal attachment is involved....it is a proper test of your morals and beliefs. If we got into the Premiershit would you stop going??

Yes the Toon need 10 more players in addition to Trippier. The commentator has just said its like a training session for city.

I never started supporting Pools for the potential, just because they’re my local team.
I had no high expectations, but that was never a problem. Championship would be lovely, but we all know the Premiership is the feeding ground of the big cats and the rest are just nibbles for the big boys. But let’s face up to it, it ain’t gonna be a dilemma for us, ..... anyway we’d be all priced out of it, it wouldn’t be a moral dilemma, it would be a financial dilemma so unless your loaded you’ll have to watch Match of the Day as a whole new wave of financially comfortable ‘fans’ would take your place.

If I won £80 million on the Euro lottery I'd be thinking do I invest in Pools, then Oh hang on! that amount of money buys ONE player in the premier league. That's how big the gap is, I'd be fookin loaded but be laughed at by the big boys.

have not got great expectations or wishes were pools are concerned. the best i could hope for would be for pools becomeing another rotherham yo yo club between league 1 and championship.

Exactly that - 80 million quid even 100 would set you aside as one of the wealthiest club owners outside of the Prem (in actual cash not asset terms). Yet somehow if you ploughed 10/20 in to get us to the championship you are now teetering on being the poorest little club too big for its boots. Unless in that time frame we could amass a La Masa style training facility and bring through youth players ala Messi, Xavi etc and sell them on for those 100 mill plus wages you wouldnt stand a chance - just look at how much Leeds and Watford are now struggling - the gap is frightening. I even think the championship will become a formidable untouchable dream soon - Look at the rich clubs that fall into it (Newcastle for starters). West Brom / Fulham and Norwich are time served Yo Yo's but with big cash and constant parachute payments.

id love to see Pools as a sustainable well financed Championship club - with good cup runs, good academy producing some fine talent as Boro did years ago. Plus a club shop in the town the size of Woolworths selling more Pools paraphernalia than an offshore tigers wage could shake a stick at. The dream

there is nothing to stop pools having a town centre club shop now if only in the indoor market. if accrington can do it surely pools can even if volunteers are used to man it on a rota basis as they do.

Mine too and other family members - alot of grankids now in the family and the grandparents are always told to go down the club shop for nice bits as all go to Pools - low an behold this is probably the 5th year running where i get the " shite that nowt left" ! this isnt the first family to walk out empty handed either - alot of money missed by the club yet again.

funny because ive been to Canada where local Ice Hockey teams in smaller towns than Pools seem to have gift shops in the local high street and at the Shared stadium complex pumping out alot more gear than just tops, mugs and pens.

its something that should be top the new COO's list to sort - especially with us now having partnered with some good sponsors who have added to the update on the stadium itself.

The club shop with any shop is about location, location, location.
Not too bad if you have a car, but anybody having to walk all that way to find it’s shut or something is out of stock would not be well pleased.
In a central location you’d pass it regularly so it’s more accessible and not forgetting the opportunity for passing trade, which in Clarence Road must be below negligible..... it’s a no brainer.

It's probobly the high rent that stops this happening. Would be good though and a great way to sell tickets to more people in the town centre too.

I'm not sure but half the town centre isn't occupied so I guess the rents are a problem in that area.

but its not that deer in the indoor market and most people like it or not go into middleton grange at sometime or another. when they do they,d nip into the club shop just for a nosy and end up buying something. you are not going to trail down york toad or go to the vic just to do that.

then so should pools. the only thing that brings money and free publicity into the town. possibly the only thing non poolies know about hartlepool is the football club. on a match day there must be plenty that spend something in the town which they wouldn,t if there was no game on.

Peanuts compared to the wages being paid by the bigger clubs, or those with the Champions league money every year are paying. As I said on another thread Ronaldo is paid , if you believer the media £550k which is over £28;6 Million a year before tax

I read somewhere that the car goes to ‘work’ in is worth over three million. Sorry, but who in this world needs a car of that value....James Bond????.......and he’s a fantasy figure too.
It’s obscene.

it is when you compre his wage to a good div.2 player. the only differences between em is that ronaldo may be more skillful, quicker of feet and thought but the wage difference is beyond belief. just wonder if jimmy hill knew what a can of worms would be opened up with the ending of the maximum wage.

One of the good things that would no doubt come out of the obscene wages of these elite athletes is that they are most likely to have to employ a gardener, cleaner, valet, hairdresser, maids, nannies, cook, security guards, agent, personal fitness coach, linguist, tailor/clothes designer, nutritionist, nail expert, caretaker, accountant, holiday planner, dog walker, personal dentist, feng shui expert, home designer, pilot, air host/ess, botanist, PC expert, daily flower arranger etc etc etc
